Badminton Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016

Recommended Posts

Only 41 nations have qualified (in 2012 there were 57 nations).

There will be more with wild cards, but still a considerably less comparing to London.

Will the South African men's singles quota be reallocated to Uganda?

It depends on whether the tripartite quotas plus quotas from potential athletes which have withdrawn are reallocated. Technically South Africa can qualify through the world rankings without the stipulation of being the highest ranked African nation which means the NOC will accept him.

Sadly all Lithuanian athletes failed. Oh well...

Lithuania has a small chance in the men's singles if a couple athletes withdraw (which has happened in the past)

Has Australia allready hinted which disciplines they might chose ?

All of the players/pairs are equally eligible based on Australia’s nomination criteria (all have less than 36000 points). The following criteria will be used to make their decision.

- Results  and  performances  at  BWF  international  sanctioned  tournaments (Within the last 12 month)

- Head to head wins at BWF international sanctioned tournaments that indicate that a top 8 placement at the 2016 Olympics is realistic. Matches won against top 30 BWF World Ranked opponents will be considered. (Within the last 12 month)

- Results  and  performances  at  the  2016  Individual  Australian  National Championship to be held from 29 Feb – 2 March 2016 at the Melbourne Sport and Aquatic Centre.

Without looking at results I want to say that the pairs will have an advantage while the men’s singles will be the least likely.

    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA

    • impossible, there are not enough venues in both towns and I mean, Milan doesn't have an Olympic Stadium, a decent Tennis Complex and a big Swimming Complex (not to mention the sea) Rome, on the other hand, doesn't have a Rowing/Canoeing Basin nor arenas and stadiums for the team sports beyond football and rugby there's no chance that all those venues would be built from scratch, meanwhile if we use both cities we already have almost everything we need, especially the most expensive and controversial sites

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
