What a memorable evening for the Netherlands. Everything went according to plan today: both hockey teams won and gold in windsurfing ... but then we didn't know that finishing on an athletics track is suddenly very difficult for us. Hopefully next year we will get some revenge with Olympic medals on the 10k and the 4x400 mixed.

Oh, and thanks for the fun :NED jokes in this thread.  That keeps us going this evening :d

tbf, at least it happened to hassan and bol who will take loads of medals anyway. Imagine if it happened to someone like Wightman who had a once in a lifetime chance

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

It’s the team mates of Bol I feel sorry for. They all did their job to perfection

:HON Garcia with the pity yellow card. Good decision. All the way across the world for DQ would be very harsh.

The back of his uniform has a gorgeous Latin American-style mural on it as well. More race uniforms like that please!

How come none of the Dutch athletes can finish the races today?

They aren’t used to being above sea-level. Probably got too tired at these high altitudes :p

It is a meh event when the US sets a WR with some no name team.

The “easy way” to fix some of that would be to cut down on the number of duplicate races, namely the m/w 4x400m. You could save some quotas that way too.

Athletics is just about the only sport my father and I watch together. I will remember Crosser’s throw and Bol’s fall for a while. A pretty eventful start to champs at least.
