There must be some mistake, but the so called news aren't that bad (at least for me). :mumble: Still waiting for inevitable horror show though, as is tradition with the IOC in the last 14 years.

- Not going forward with electronic sports (for now) - big win

- Not adding summer sports to the Winter Olympics (for now) - big win

- Ending the host sports inflation debacle - a win

The cutting of core sports / disciplines is always a hot topic. If it is highly necessary, i can live with losing Modern Pentathlon, Aerials or Synchronised Swimming. Those would be the least hurtful imo.

I'm not reading much into the sports breakdown right now. Looks like they just separated the different disciplines withing the sports governing body.

I don't think they would cut Greco-Roman. Last time they tried getting rid of wrestling the IOC got a huge backlash. Plus it is a sport that has a strong country presence in both Europe, Asia and the US, though with Greco it's a bit more limited. The lobby here is much stronger than in a Pentathlon, Nordic Combined / Aerials, Canoeing etc.

Freestyle wrestling is absolutely safe. But because it is now a different discipline than Greco-Roman it will be evaluated differently.

Greco-Roman is in trouble because there is no women’s event. Assuming Nordic combined either gets dropped or has women’s events added (hard to imagine neither of those happens) then Greco-Roman wresting would be the *only* discipline without a women’s event.

It was rated the lowest of all team sports across summer and winter according to IOCs own criteria a few years ago. It was almost dropped when wrestling was a few years ago.

It balances Handball out pretty well in terms of countries that watch it.

The leak suggests a women’s event is close to coming in for Greco-Roman.

Sliding sports must be in big danger under the cost of venue focus. Golf as well.

I think sliding sports are very safe for 2030, 2034 and 2038. Beyond that who knows.

I wonder why Archey is not now two disciplines as well with compound in 2028 and obviously not expensive to keep it.

I’m not so sure. They could get ride of them for 2030/2034 as a statement.

Because it was shortlisted as one of the three sports to be considered for removal the last time they did this exercise, and because the venue is troublesome (two pitches that can't easily be used for other sports). Rugby 7s can easily share it's venue with another sport.

London only had 1 pitch didn’t it. Why did they move to two.

They won't need two anymore now that they are switching to the 3 groups of 4 format like other sports.

I think hockey would only leave if they need/want an expanded cricket tournament.

But in truth I don't think they will cut that much stuff. It'll be the obvious ones plus some random discipline.

And Rhythmic Gymnastics has no men's event, while Synchronized swimming has barely any men. These are the balance makers to get the equal gender quota they so much desire.
