Considering that they are already building a venue for Baseball/softball and a planned venue for Cricket... I can see it them 2 being the ony "invited" sports

Is it so difficult for them to just make Baseball/Softball official sports already? This constant adding and removing them is kind of pointless.

Because it was shortlisted as one of the three sports to be considered for removal the last time they did this exercise, and because the venue is troublesome (two pitches that can't easily be used for other sports). Rugby 7s can easily share it's venue with another sport.

I think all it really means is that the IAFF is trying to play nice with the IOC.

It was rated the lowest of all team sports across summer and winter according to IOCs own criteria a few years ago. It was almost dropped when wrestling was a few years ago.

There must be some mistake, but the so called news aren't that bad (at least for me).  Still waiting for inevitable horror show though, as is tradition with the IOC in the last 14 years.

 

- Not going forward with electronic sports (for now) - big win

 

- Not adding summer sports to the Winter Olympics (for now) - big win

 

- Ending the host sports inflation debacle - a win

 

The cutting of core sports / disciplines is always a hot topic. If it is highly necessary, i can live with losing Modern Pentathlon, Aerials or Synchronised Swimming. Those would be the least hurtful imo. 

 

I'm not reading much into the sports breakdown right now. Looks like they just separated the different disciplines withing the sports governing body.

 

I don't think they would cut Greco-Roman. Last time they tried getting rid of wrestling the IOC got a huge backlash. Plus it is a sport that has a strong country presence in both Europe, Asia and the US, though with Greco it's a bit more limited. The lobby here is much stronger than in a Pentathlon, Nordic Combined / Aerials, Canoeing etc.

The IOC doesn’t care about a backlash anymore. They wint be any mechanism for ny challenge anyway. The leaked documents show what sports are on the chopping block.
