Qualifying tournaments will be held in Japan, China and Poland from 16-24 September 2023.

The group draw will be held on Friday, March 17th. Apparently FIVB might drop the long-standing serpentine rankings system but nobody still knows...

OK, now we have more news...

:RUS are OUT

the draw for the OQTs will be Tomorrow, March 17th at 1 p.m. CET (Live for Free on FIVB Youtube Channel)

the 24 teams will be divided into 8 pots with 3 teams each, according to the World Ranking.

however, the top 3 seeds will be the organizers of the 3 tournaments (also ranked according to the WR).

therefore, we will have a draw following this path:

seeded teams: the 3 hosts, :CHN (pool A), :JPN (pool B), :POL (pool C)

then, we will have 7 pots with 3 teams each one (always according to the WR): 1 team from each pot will be drawn in each pool to build the 3 8-team tournaments (the top 2 of each tournament will qualify to Paris 2024).

Pot #1: :SRB:BRA:ITA

Pot #2: :USA:TUR:DOM

Pot #3: :BEL:NED:GER

Pot #4: :CAN:THA:BUL

Pot #5: :PUR:CZE:COL

Pot #6: :MEX:ARG:KOR

Pot #7: :UKR:SLO:PER

Not the worst draw possible for the Netherlands. We played a close game versus China at the world championship, if we can upset them this time, there is hope. Chances are still super slim though.

In the other two pools it'll be interesting whether there's any home advantage. Otherwise I'd say Brazil, Turkey, Italy and the USA are the favorites.

    • Please do not bring this idea to Sindo
    • Tahli/Dean    Probably just as disappointed as the Australians on here are
    • Gotta feel for  defending world bronze medalists, but couldn't make it to the Olympics
    • with a steal of 3 in the 8th end,  can't make the last shot to stay alive.
    • Oh yea.  Seemed like they were starting to get some less than elite pitchers, but the commits they've had in the last 12 hours have been stellar.  Now the staff feels like an embarrassment of riches.  They have 3 elite starters and a bunch of guys that can eat innings.  Thrilled what Mark DeRosa has been able to put together.
    • It looks like you guys will be juuuuust fine.   Tarik Skubal, Logan Webb, Joe Ryan and Nolan McLean all committed within the last couple of days.
    • Yay for no disqualifications! Thanks @OlympicIRL for all the work! Getting close.
    • I think 's athlete probably earned enough points today in the Quals of Halfpipe to get the nod.  Will need to wait for confirmation, but I think so.
