Werloc 3,176 Posted August 22, 2023 #8 Share Posted August 22, 2023 SQUAD - everyone can qualify to the Olympics, but everyone can fail to qualify at the same time This year's motto is - unpredictability. Women's Single Sculls: Viktorija Senkutė Women's Double Sculls: Donata Karalienė / Dovilė Rimkutė (European silver medalists this year and our biggest contenders) Women's Pair: Ieva Adomavičiūtė / Kamilė Kralikaitė (Kralikaitė just won the U23 championships with a different partner, Adomavičiūtė is here, because Senkutė had an injury a couple months ago and Lithuania dropped their quadruple sculls project and now all the four women are split into three different boats) Men's Single Sculls: Dovydas Nemeravičius Men's Double Sculls: Žygimantas Galižanskis / Povilas Stankūnas Men's Pair: Domantas Stankūnas / Dovydas Stankūnas Men's Four: Armandas Kelmelis / Povilas Juškevičius / Dominykas Jančionis / Giedrius Bieliauskas In my opinion, we could've sent a men's and a women's quadruple sculls as well formed from all the unused athletes of various boats, but I assume nobody really believed in them being competitive. But we have U23 and U20 medalists just sitting at home right now. maestro 1 Link to comment https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/18981-rowing-wr-world-championships-2023/#findComment-572860 Share on other sites
Ogreman 362 Posted August 22, 2023 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2023 Squad was announced yesterday. Lots of movement between boats on the Women's side of things and for basically the first time ever we are rolling out a Men's Quad mostly made up of under 23 medallists from a month ago. 9 Olympic class boats and 28 total athletes selected across all boats- both records for Ireland as far as I know. Women's Double Sculls: Zoe Hyde / Alison Bergin Women's Lightweight Double Sculls: Aoife Casey / Margaret Cremen Women's Pair: Aifric Keogh / Fiona Murtagh Women's Four: Natalie Long / Imogen Magner / Sanita Puspure / Eimear Lambe Men's Double Sculls: Daire Lynch / Philip Doyle Men's Quadruple Sculls: Konan Pazzaia / Ronan Byrne / Andrew Sheehan / Brian Colsh Men's Lightweight Double Sculls: Fintan McCarthy / Paul O'Donovan Men's Pair: Ross Corrigan / Nathan Timoney Men's Four: Fionnán McQuillan Tolan / Adam Murphy / Jack Dorney / John Kearney Expectations for this squad are high despite some very mixed results so far this year and five of these boats being combinations that have never raced together before. (Hopefully we see all these boats race but our high performance director has a habit of withdrawing boats based on trial results the week before a regatta. Didn't do it before worlds last year but has done it for well every other regatta we have raced over this Olympic cycle. The Men's Four is probably the most at risk there.)
