Swimming at the Aquatics FINA World Championships 2019

Our tv just showed a close up of King's touch. It seems she makes a very soft touch with her left hand while she makes a strong one with the right hand. Maybe the left hand wasn't registered.

Yeah kind of expected it would be between Singapore and South Korea for the last spot, Portugal was likely to finish last.

Maybe she should talk to Milorad Cavic about alleged soft touches on the wall.  Is Efinova sponsored by the official time keeper as well?

When I swam my coach always stressed hitting the wall hard. For specifically that reason.

I was just lucky if anyone was still around me by the time I finished. I was especially bad a breaststroke. I’d say my best of Fly, which is funny because I have very little upper body strength.

from swimswam...

"American breaststroke star Lilly King was disqualified in the third heat of the 200 breast Thursday morning in Gwangju, and nearly two-and-a-half hours later, we’ve received word that USA Swimming’s protest of the decision will be heard by the Jury of Appeal before the next session begins at 8 p.m. local time Thursday.

King won the prelims heat, then turned at the scoreboard and reacted with shock upon seeing the DQ. According to the Italian broadcast, she walked to the officials’ table to protest, and was turned away. King was apparently not given a reason for her DQ when she asked after her race.

USA Swimming also did not know what it was for until about 30 minutes after the race, when it was told that King did a “non-simultaneous touch” on her first turn."

It's a shame that so few nations participated. Neither Great Britain nor Italy sent a team.

obviously...except for Pellegrini, at the moment we don't have a swimmer capable of going below the 2-min mark (yeah, maybe a couple of non-specialists like Quadarella, Cusinato or Panziera could swim 1.59, but not more than that)...

we didn't start the women's 4*100m free relay, too...our women's team is not as deep as the men's...

    • Some notable  retirements:   Elisavet Pesiridou (athletics - 100m hurdles) - She announced her retirement on her 34th birthday. She competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. She narrowly missed Paris 2024 despite being in good form, the rest of he field seemed to get stronger and her ranking was a bit lower even though she was quite consistent. She struggled with injuries in 2025.   Fani Tzeli (taekwondo) - She was 7th in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Still, she is only 24 yo and seemed to be rising up again after winning bronze at the European Championships so it is a bit surprising.   Aikaterini Divari (sailing) - She competed in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Only 25 yo.   AJ Ginnis (alpine skiing) - Despite winning a silver at the World Championships he never got to compete at the Winter Olympics as he was always unfortunately injured. A shame as he is by far our best winter athlete ever. Only 31 yo, and I have a feeling he might come back in 2030 based on his last interview...

    • Well.  Having gotten it a bit at a distance a few comments about my experiences   Travel: Very happy. Flying to and from was a breeze (the plane home slighty delayed). The same can be said about getting around in Milano. Getting around outside was of course slightly harder, especially with some delays back from Antholx (but i guess that's not a big surprise when a lot of people leave a place in the mountains)   Atmosphere: Very happy around the venues, but it's also very clear that it's smaller than the Summer games. People weren't following the events wherever you went. Alcohol certainly made a difference between Paris and now. Sadly did experience a few who should certainly have stopped a couple of beers earlier.    The logistics at the venues:  Very easy to see that Santagiulia is new and absolutely not a perfect venue. Seems like some kinks were fixed when I got there, but there's still stuff to work out. The food at the Milano venues were meh and there were quite some lines. Tesero was a chaos when it came to getting food, but the quality was slightly better at the skiing venues.
