football league is so fun to watch sometimes we use the newest technologies which can stop the game at 22nd minute to quickly "resurface" the pitch but still have some dozen of fans in the stands bored to death while watching matches ...

League Football in  reaching Scottish levels of excitement!

 

A football team in Turkmenistan has made a stunning debut in the country's top league, winning the national championship in its first season.

 

But Arkadag is no ordinary club. It was set up by authoritarian ex-leader Kurbanguly Berdymukhamedov* and claims most of the national team in its ranks.

 

NB That is Gurbanguly Mälikgulyýewiç Berdimuhamedow, not to be confused with any other lesser Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, of course.

Big derby game in England tomorrow is Ipswich v Norwich.  Very unusual in that most of their fans come from small villages and each county only has one professional team, so it is effectively Suffolk (Ipswich) v Norfolk (Norwich). Back in post-Roman times, this was the Kingdom of East Anglia & in pre-Roman times it was the land of the Icenii, who famously once beat the Romans in a battle (but not the war, of course).

Some interesting choices. Personally i find it difficult to for example compare a goalkeeper and a striker, i think it would be better to have a top 10 for every position.
