OCEANIA World Cup qualifiers  - Update

Following the decisions taken by the football associations of the Cook Islands and Vanuatu to withdraw from the OFC preliminary competition for the FIFA World Cup 2022, the Bureau for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers has taken the following decisions in order to determine the winner and runner-up of Group A in a fair and simple manner:

1. All matches played or scheduled to be played as part of Group A involving the Cook Islands or Vanuatu shall be deemed to have not taken place for the purposes of determining the group standings.

2. The match between the Solomon Islands and Tahiti scheduled to take place on 24 March 2022 will act as a single play-off match to determine the winner and runner-up of Group A. In accordance with article 20 paragraph 11 of the Regulations for the FIFA World Cup 2022™ Preliminary Competition, if the match is level at the end of normal playing time, extra time shall be played. If the score is still level at the end of extra time, kicks from the penalty mark shall be taken to determine the winner.

3. The Solomon Islands will go into their match against Tahiti with a clean disciplinary record (as they did not receive any cautions in their match against the Cook Islands, this shall not change the status quo in substance).

4. For the avoidance of doubt, the match between the Cook Islands and the Solomon Islands, which took place on 17 March 2022 with a 2-0 result in favour of the Solomon Islands, will count with respect to the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, although it will not count with respect to the preliminary competition Group A standings.

@Henry_Leon News on team Italia, i've heard rumors, that some players may be sick (Covid) ?

Only Locatelli is out for covid (at least for first match), other cases are two member of staff.

More doubts about the conditions of defence players not totally fit: Chiellini and Bonucci (maybe out for first match).

Japan beat Australia 2-0 by two very late goals .

which means Japan and Saudi Arabia are officially qualified for the World Cup

Australia has to play against IRQ/UAE/LBN to qualify for the intercontinental play-off match against 5th CONMEBOL.

interestingly New Zealand now has a better chance to qualify than Australia.

    • Stefania Constantini and her team out of Italy are heading their separate ways   Very confused to be honest, I know they had a bad season but I didn't expect to this happening... there's no real other options for any of them, unless they're focusing on Rock League/mixed doubles.   Italy has no other top female team, and the juniors aren't looking promising either, the last time they qualified a team to a World Juniors (not as host) was in 2014. Doubt the Italian Federation would let Constantini step away from the four-player game, she's too much of a talent, my guess is she'll "be forced" to go with Mariani (I mean her and Mosaner don't like each other much), still I have no idea who else they'd pick up given it's all five of them going their separate ways. Maybe Mathis will go back to representing Switzerland??
