Cross-Country Skiing FIS World Cup 2022 - 2023

Recommended Posts

They are handing points to Top 50 skiers now? Woah. Guess FIS really has no ideas how to even pretend cross country is competitive anymore. With 12 Norwegians and 8 Swedes crowding out the Top 30 on a daily basis I guess they threw a bone for the minnows who can "celebrate" winning 2 points for 49th place. What a joke

I like this. :d

The main reason why I stopped caring about XC skiing is the oversaturation of the few powerhouses. Not that this will help others reach their level, but at least it will bring some interest to me, as opposed to tuning in just to see which of the countless Norwegians will win today. :p

In women's cross-country skiing, I don't even see the problem as big. There really only Neprayeva falls out. Especially in the distance field, Niskanen and Parmakoski, Brennan and Diggins, as well as some Germans and Stadlober are competitive next to the Swedes and Norwegians.
Only in the men's race it's almost only the Norwegians. But the women's races should be quite exciting, especially now that Johaug is gone maybe even more exciting.

With Russia banned I guess we'll only see Norwegian & Swedish flags in this thread. I doubt anyone will be watching that :coffee:

You have been saying "Nobody watches" for years now, yet apparently people are still watching. I know I will, no less than before. Cross-country skiing :cheer:

I stopped watching this sport full-time around after 2014. Even cricket has more nations winning these days. I only watch cc skiing at World Champs or Olympics. The countless sprints just wear me out and I never liked the distance mass starts. But hey, this is what TV wants. 10 km mass starts are truly the dumbest idea ever but hey, if you enjoy them then go ahead and watch. For me it's a complete waste of time.

Top 20 for :EST Himma out of nowhere.

Let's see if he will get busted for EPO like some other Estonians who had made similar breakthroughs through the seasons...

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
    • Idea (that I don't want to mess with right now, but someone else can steal the idea): Could feed the docs from LA28 + Paris 2024 through AI and see what it says.  (Would just take downloading them, perhaps merging them for ease of upload, and passing it through.)
    • If you have time would love to see a sport by sport overview of the changes/new sports
    • Slowly going through the documents.   Looks like canoe slalom qualifiers will be a bit different. More kayak cross quotas which will let nations to essentially qualify two kayakers.
    • How about we choose either Rome or Milano  I hate this timeline we have entered of multiple host cities / countries. The football World Cup became ludicrous, we don't need the Olympics to join them. At least not more than they already are.

    • I'm also reminded as I know Canadians are painfully aware that if figures hadn't been a part of the 1984 Olympics, then Brian Orser would have won gold.  Hamilton could have finished 4th in the free skate that year and still beat Orser who finished 7th in the figures
