A 19 years old whit only 2 WC race can't go the Olympics... they aren't a talent show for young sportman :p

Not a talent show, but it's not unrealistic to think someone like Vinatzer is a decent World Cup athlete in 4 years from now, and having this experience now might greatly improve the chances of him keeping his focus at the next Olympics, instead of losing it because, well, it's the Olympics (like always happens with more than just a few first time Olympians). It'd be different if Italy had 4-5 spots and 4-5 much much better athletes in his discipline, but do they? (definitely not Borsotti)

I think that the Olympics aren't an event for do some experience but a "prize" for the 4 years before it. So, why add Vinatzer in the team and why he must do the team event? It's a big shams!

Adding him to the team for his individual events: logical and a smart choice.

Letting him do the team event: wait what? That's not the best idea ever.

Apparently he will do the team event too.. I haven't idea why our federation is so stupid! It's the only case in our Olympic team...

Yeah, I'm against putting people in the team just because they are young and automatically "perspective" (like Prock, Vinatzer). They should wait.

@heywoodu Last week you complained about Robatscher getting selected instead of some youth, and yet this weekend Robatscher earned Italy's first podium since before that other girl was born. :p

Yeah that was poor timing :p

Still in general I'm in favour of letting people get this hugely valuable experience, especially if you've got the quota anyway and the other option is either rejecting it (meh) or sending someone older who's barely better.

I highly doubt that Vinatzer will be in the team event (there's Gross, Moelgg, Tonetti,...). He's the 4th slalom skier and there were only 3 other possible choiches:

- reject another quota (imo a stupid choice)

- send an old guy like Razzoli (imo also stupid)

- send someone like Maurberger, a 22-23yo who is doing well in Europa Cup...but in this way he would have skipped some races in that competition and lost the chance to win a nominal quota for the next world cup.

So sending a 18 yo to get experience is not bad at all.

    • The first prediction is OK for us, but the second is unfortunately disastrous... With 28 medals, only 4 gold at home? And as the same number of gold medals as the UK and Slovenia, who have a combined 6-7 medals overall? It's a disaster. Anything less than 6 gold medals and a place in the top 10 of the medal standings will be a disaster for us... Personally, I'd rather even win 22-23 medals with 6-7 of which are gold, than 28 medals with 4 gold... Yes, every medal counts, but in sport, it's all about winning; the rest are just consolation prizes.

Senegal players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr will miss the first two qualifiers for the next AFCON later this year for "unsporting behavior towards the referee       Morocco also hit with big fine Morocco's federation were fined a total of $315,000 for unsporting and improper conduct by their players, coaches and supporters. A whopping $200,000 of that total was for the behavior of the stadium ball boys, who attempted to seize a towel being used by Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy on a wet night in Rabat — in an apparent bid to distract him. An additional fine of $100,000 was imposed for the "improper conduct" of players and technical staff who invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the work of the DR Congo referee Jean-Jacques Ndala. There was also a $15,000 fine after Moroccan supporters used lasers to try and distract Senegalese players during the game. Captain Achraf Hakimi was also banned for two games, with one suspended, and Morocco's Ismael Saibari was banned for three games, both for "unsporting behavior".

    • Olivia Weaver was up 9-4 in the 5th game.  Hania El Hammamy  then scored 5 straight points to tie it up.  Then, took the lead with a sixth straight point, then won with a 7th straight point, taking the Sprott Tournament of Champions in New York.  Still, congrats to Weaver for bringing home second place!  (And congrats to El Hammamy...what a streak at the end!)
    • One thing working in our favor with Luge is that Women's Doubles is just one sled per NOC, so I like our chances there.  We'll be 3rd or 4th in the Relay (one of my favorite events)...if everyone slides cleanly, we'll probably be 4th, behind , , and ...but anything can happen in the relay.  (I think in my official predictions I had us 3rd.  Wishful thinking, I suppose.)
