West Coast (US) heat wave is no joke. The US Track and Field Trials were postponed until the evening because of the heat. NBC showed a measure that had the track surface at 64 Celsius (148 Fahrenheit) :yikes:

Here’s a clip of that measure (might be geoblocked)

From my understanding, if today’s temperature is confirmed, it would be the 4th (or perhaps tied for 3rd) hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth.

For the record, 130 Fahrenheit is 54.4 Celsius.

but wow, this is huge

I'm already slightly annoyed that it's predicted to be at least 24-25 degrees every day for the next two weeks here, burning

Heavy rain in western Germany, eastern Belgium and southern Netherlands earlier this week. In the Netherlands the damage so far is luckily only material (floodings and such), but in Germany the death toll has gone up from 30 or so yesterday to 81 by now, with 1300 people missing (most of them hopefully just because of the mobile networks being lost and so them not being able to contact anyone), while in Belgium 12 people have died so far.

Really unprecedented natural violence in these parts. Whole villages have been damaged, especially those small German towns situated in tight corners of rivers, where something like this sadly was just a matter of time :(

OTOH, this is good news for Winter sports fans.

A group of 87 ultramarathon runners were rescued on Saturday after they were left stranded by snow in a freezing Utah mountain range during the 50 mile race.

The runners for the DC Peaks 50 ultramarathon had stopped as the Wasatch Mountains became hammered with 12 to 18 inches of snow, with temperatures plunging into the 20s.

Rescue crews were called to the scene and searched for the missing runners for several hours using both on-foot and snow vehicle teams.

Lots of drama here the past few days as Zagreb has been deemed by some to be the 2nd most polluted city in the World ! Only behind :PAK Karachi, and in front of any given megalopolis from :CHN:IND:USA !!

* It turned out to be a hoax, of course. There are 3 air quality measuring stations in Zagreb, and apparently one of them (in a suburban area with minimum traffic!) was giving faulty and incredibly unrealistic readings, what brought the city average to these levels.
