If the lights light up exactly at the correct moment, he was definitely first, since his light went on first. Not sure if those lights are 100% accurate though?

I just hope that this is the end for Kim Rasmussen in Hungary, and we will continue with Vladimir Golovin as the coach of the national team. He knows this new generation of Hungarian players more than anyone and he won two gold medals with them at the U19 ECh and U20 WCh in the last two years.

And that's it for France. Which very likely means that the teams has to finish in the Top8 to get a OQT spot, maybe even Top7 if Korea flops in the main round.

So let's see what we have...

Group I

:NED 4 pts  (ECh 3rd)

:GER 3 pts (ECh 10th)

:NOR 2 pts (ECh 5th)

:KOR 2 pts (already qualified for the Olympics)

:DEN 1 pts (ECh 8th)

:SRB 0 pts (ECh 11th)

Group II

:RUS 4 pts (ECh 2nd)

:ESP 4 pts (ECh 12th)

:MNE 2 pts (ECh 9th)

:SWE 2 pts (ECh 6th)

:ROU 0 pts (ECh 4th)

:JPN 0 pts (already qualified for the Olympics)

I guess Hungary still has a chance if Russia, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden don't flop in the main round.

I'm at work and I started watching the :NED - :NOR match, but when I saw they were 5 goals down, I turned it off because my computer was very slow and I was working with some big data.

When I looked at the results at the end of the match I was so shocked. Going through to the Main Round with 4 points after losing the first match against :SLO by quite a margin :mumble:

What a shame that the 7th spot at this WCh will be awarded with an Olympic quota (the two non-European nations won't have any chance in that OQT). In this format teams will be encouraged to lose a match purposely to finish 4th in their group.

With Korea's defeat against Serbia we are getting closer to the situation where only the Top7 will qualify for the OQT.

    • Assuming Venezuela loses and gives up 4+ runs, Canada just needs PR to lose and give up 9 or more runs in a 9 inning or less game. I hadn't realized one of their games went to 10 innings before. I think it's possible, but we'll have to wait and see.
