Alpine Skiing 2022 - 2023 Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Apparently the 2022/23 World Cup calendar will only be approved at the FIS Congress in May. The delay is over major changes to the calendar. With Maribor out it also appears that Ga-Pa will no longer hold the men's DH either. The Zermatt DH will happen one week after Soelden on the last weekend of October (men) and first weekend of November (women).

FIS is about to admit failure on the unfair parallel courses crap (yay!) and have only two scheduled in the next season (one in Lech). Instead the previously estranged combined is set for a major comeback however in new format. There will be DH + Super G "speed combined" and GS + SL "technical combined" proposed next season.

Elias Kolega retires.

Sadly, as it turns out, he never did recover from the freak injury sustained in May 2020. An injury that never would have happened under sane coaching, but that's another story...

  • 4 weeks later...

In shocking news, The World Cup is getting extra weekends in the US of A next season. New rounds in Aspen and Palisades Tahoe are booked for the end of February and early March, just after the World Championships.

It looks that 15 years young Lara Colturi (Super-G Olympic Champion Daniela Ceccarelli's daughter), considered the most talented girl in Italy (at least) among the youth classes in SG and above all, GS, will represent Albania from next season...:yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :hairpull:

I wonder how Italy can afford to lose their upcoming alpine skiing star even before she starts to compete at the highest level?

Just ahead of the Home Olympics?

Going to Albania??? (I mean, I could understand if she goes to Austria, Switzerland or another skiing powerhouse in search of a better and more competitive team, but c'mon, man! Albania???!!!)

I knew there's something wrong in our Wintersports Federation, but that's really scary (and humiliating)...

Calendar for 2022/23 season is out. They rejected all the new ideas after all, parallels are almost gone and no combined of any sort.

Big change is the addition of North American rounds after the World Championships for men as women will race in Kvitfjell instead.

Maribor is out like previously reported.

    • Also a first: never before has a Dutch pair participated in the games, according to media rapports.
    • The Technical director of the Dutch Olympic Committee has, using his discretionary powers, decided to include them in the team. He cites “extra-ordinary circumstances”, but has not stated what they are. The use of these powers is quite rare. They were used in 2022 to nominate an alpine-skier.
