Just watched the men's 61kg final, Rashidov vs Bonne. At the end Rashidov won and I opened the Wikipedia page of this weight class (the first one I watched, so I wanted to check how the repechage system works before watching other weight classes) and there I saw Bonne won the gold :yikes: Which I then saw in the video as well after Rashidov's coach was sent off.

Anyone care to explain what happened there? Why did Bonne get an extra point and why was the coach sent off?

.

First gold for :CAN (should have been 2) but what a great problem to have for Canada. Who will represent the country in Tokyo in the 76 kg, defending Olympic champion Weibe or now bronze in 2017 and gold in 2018 (in the 72kg) Di Stasio?

I'm a bit lazy to watch the match again but I think that's because of a failed challenge from Russia. Bonne was winning it 5-5 so they made a desperate challenge

I thought the Russian guy was winning at 5-5 (thinking about the last person to score a point getting the win) :yikes:

So when your challenge fails, you get sent off?

    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
