While giving petrodollars as a bribe being the only reason to give these hosting rights is ok?

No idea where I said or even suggested that, no. I'm just reacting to someone mentioning some reasons and this specific one seems like a pretty odd reason. No event can ever change the 'traditional timing and schedule' (whatever that may be)?

World Cup in the winter? Olympics in October? Marathon run at midnight?

If a country cannot physically host an event in the regular window for fear of heat exhaustion and athlete performance, they should not be hosting these events.

Especially when you have NBC and swimming schedule at Olympics ;)

Well that's one way to look at it.

I think it's disqualifying, but this is one issue among the several that I listed

In a few decades, Qatar weather will be in many other places and countries, so why not start early with the sporting schedules. :d

They will not show all in TV but they will go on RaiPlay for some session (at last a small part of the session). Do you know, it's rai.

no, they are going to reinstate raisport 2 for a few days as an independent tv channel, beside the usual raisport+ to show all the events they have to (Cycling, Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball and Canoeing)...;)

Olympics in October?

This would be perfect for Tokyo, as the weather conditions would be much more moderate.

I mean, in 1964 Tokyo did host the Olympics in October, but I guess people were smarter back then. ;)

Didn't see people complain about it on Totallympics back then!

They will the channel 58, so no any chance to have an HD trasmission?

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
