Canada has been alternating good/bad days so far, and after yesterday we've had a relatively good start to today.  Hopefully it'll carry on, especially in speed skating.  
 
Funny story, I was given the choice between hockey, figure skating or speed skating tickets.  This was months ago, I had no idea for what day or which event, so I chose hockey.  Then I found out it was for today and I got all excited that it was for CAN vs USA which is playing just down the street from me in an hour.  But no, turns out it's CHN vs GER later today.  The speed skating would have been for today.  But oh well, I'll take it!  I'll still be representing the Maple Leaf in the arena and the Olympic Green.  

I realize my preference for G-S-B when ranking the medal table will get both my and citizenships revoked :P

Or have trials a full 6-12 months before the event, and put them to training

Yep, I'm for having some sort of season-long rankings to become the representative at the Olympics as a way to ensure we get the most consistent team. With the Trials, you end up with teams like Homan who perform well in domestic competitions but always choke in the international event.

So this whole competition is basically just a regular women's snowboard cross race? All 4 riders are caught up to each other within the first ~20 seconds of the course on every run. 

All the great male Canadian skiers over the year, and James Crawford is only the fourth one to win an Olympic medal. Kind of wild.
 
Also of course this is the first time a Canadian man wins an Olympic medal in an Alpine Skiing race other than the downhill or super-g.
