It hasn't been bad in the women's event, but in the men's event so far an American just has to make it down on his feet and is handed a gold.  Hopefully better scoring this time.

That's unironically a really good result tbh. Without Messing Canada had no shot at all at a medal, and just making the free skate is a huge win.
