Doping Cases and Bans Thread (2016 & 2017)

Recommended Posts

We have an interesting twist in the Fancy Bear cases.

Jakob Fuglsang, who is between the latest names to be leaked, states that the leaked TUE documents are fake, as the TUE is actually from 2008 and not the 2016 games.

It's the same with the 2 argentines mentioned in part 4, those TUE were from 2010 and 2014.

Tyson Fury caught with cocaine it seems. Probably going to lose all titles. And i was wondering why the match with Klitschko was being delayed so much.

What a surprise, Fury always seemed like such an intelligent, well-behaving gentleman.

Nobody seems to be sure if cocaine is banned "out of competition". It is not under WADA rules but professional boxing works under a different set of rules.

But it may not matter as Fury is also reported to have refused to provide a sample when testers from  the UK Anti-Doping Agency turned up at his house. That might be more serious for same.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
