On the opening day of the AIBA World Boxing Championships, AIBA President Mr. Umar Kremlev met with referees and judges who have been specially selected, trained and screened prior to officiating the tournament. President Kremlev vowed to ensure a great event for all participants, with fair fights for boxers at its core......

Kosovo not on the startlists, so it appears the Serbian authorities stood firm on not granting them access despite AIBA's statement.

A team of refugees (labelled the Fair Chance Team) is listed... well, two of them. The second team is a one-boxer curiosity - it's Fawaz Aborode, a member of Byron Boxing Club who's come through the Scottish system over the past 4 years or so (can't find anything earlier than that on Google) and is otherwise listed as part of the Scottish team (second from right in picture below).

I assume there was no seeding for these championships, seeing as :UZB Hasanboy Dusmatov, :KAZ Saken Bibossinov, and :COL Yuberjen Martínez share the same quarter of the flyweight draw... indeed the first two actually fight each other in the first round of 32 (!)

Asenov - Escobar again  This is becoming a recurring joke. Also, i thought Asenov was going to turn profi after Tokyo. Guess the 100 k for gold made him stick for these Worlds as well.

Since, this is AIBA, there are probably no live scores... We already have our first win, from what i can see on Wiki. The new Bulgarian, The Fresh Prince of Havana Javier Ibanez gets on the board.

Matúš Strnisko won in -86kg 3:2 against Rogerio Romero of Mexico.

The next day arrived a letter to our team that after Mexican protest AIBA changed the result 2:3 in favor of the Mexican without possibility of another appeal

Our team only after asking AIBA why we were not informed about the Mexican appeal and the subsequent "investigations" at all, only then received just a official paper stating only sternly that two of the three investigating judges had changed the result of second round in favor of the Mexican. Interestingly enough the judges viewed only the 2nd round not the entire match :d

Oh man, I love this sport

    • Good luck then! Keep us updated please!!!   And see you in 2026 olympics!!!
    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
