With zero explanation given, it was announced just now that Zrinka Ljutić will replace Leona Popović as the flag bearer, because Leona "will not be in Beijing on the day of the ceremony". Huh. Interesting how they found this out just now.

 

Smells like really bad news...  Her first race is supposed to be in just five days...

Elana Meyers Taylor was also selected as a flagbearer, but since she is still in quarantine Brittany Bowe will walk in her name.

She won the vote (the way US flagbearer selection works is that every sport nominates an athlete, then there is a vote between all the nominees).

 

Officially Meyers Taylor is one of the two flagbearer but she won't walk in the opening ceremony.
