Bleh. We will have flagbearers after all.

Leona Popović, our best female skier in the last 10 years, will be forced to awkwardly share the flag with a cross-country skiing man who got selected thanks to his head coach father, and who of course has no results to speak of and zero future prospects. Yay equality!!!

p.s. Since our male alpine skiers are arriving after the Opening ceremony, our NOC literally had only this one male athlete to "choose"....

So Leona Popovic and Marko Skender if I understood correctly, right ? :d

Chinese Taipei :TPE:TWN are boycotting the ceremonies as well

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

My guesses for :SWE

Female: Charlotte Kalla or Anna Hasselborg. But will SOC pick a curler again? My bet is Kalla.

Male: Sebastian Samuelsson

If only one I think Kalla.

My Guess for :CHN

Gu Ailing(Freestyle Skiing) and Ning Zhongyan(Speed Skating)

Unfortunately Sui Wenjing/Han Cong(Figure Skating) and Wu Dajing(Short Track Speed Skating) are scheduled with matches on the ceremony day, otherwise I may change my guess.

:CHN official

Men: Gao Tingyu(Speed Skating)

Women: Zhao Dan(Skeleton)

Obviously my previous guess is all wrong.

I think your choices made more sense than the actual selection xD

unfortunately it seems our NOC enjoys to follow the IOC's "advise" which means 67% of our small 3-man delegation will carry the flag ! :d

it will be Sattar Seyd (CC skiing) and Atefeh Ahmadi (Alpine)

4 years ago our flagbearer crying during the parade of the nations even made it to the IOC's Olympic highlight. but now with this "advise" it's not really a special moment for anybody.

one of our flag bearers tested positive for COVID and will miss the Games. I don't know what's the plan now.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
    • Today : Jordan 3-0 Egypt  This team will surprise us
    • option no.2 for sure, as it's been all this shitstorm organized by the nhl owners through their embedded reporters   ps not that the north american audience looks really aware of the hockey rules and habits outside the nhl (and around their game, too, since they look not to know that just a couple of weeks ago they played 2 nhl matches on an ice sheet of the exact same size of Milan's olympic arena)
    • Are we supposed to take Daly's word for it or is this just public posturing to try and shame the Milan organizers (which they certainly deserve for all the delays) in order to threaten NHL participation?
    • Well that was a disappointing opening ceremony. Not to mention the boss is late too...   Anyway this is another victim of bureaucracy, the initial creative director quit in October and we get this kind of show.   Original plan: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/17EVayTpig/
    • Japan missed their last shot with hammer in the 10th last night against the Philippines for them to stay alive.  USA's remaining 2 games are against Philippines and Netherlands, so they have a tough road ahead, although they've already beaten Japan, so that helps for tiebreaker purposes.
    • They have already beaten Japan, so a win would them in a strong place.
