Any chance for these nations to get a medal?

:EST almost guaranteed in FS

:GBR still one of the contenders in Curling

:CRO slim but still possible chance in M Slalom

:UKR very small chance in Biathlon relay + M Aerials

Does not look good for others, maybe :DEN in Speed Skating Mass Start I remember some users said that, but I do not know how much it can be realistic + you never know in M Hockey. Denmark started pretty well and won already against Czechs and Swiss and played super close game against Russia :p

:KAZ I am affraid it is now quite impossible

Surprised that Norway still isn't completely out of reach. If Germany would have converted some of their gold medal chances (Dürr, Althaus, ski jumping mixed/men's team, Nörl, Baumeister), they actually could have won the medal table.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

I am somewhat surprised at how far down in the medal count that Russia is currently holding. Any explanation as to how they have slipped to this level?

Russia isn't doing that bad. If we exclude Sochi, which was an anomaly as a host nation, they had in 2010 only 3 golds, while in 2018 they were only 2.

So they are having a better Olympics already, than those two, both in terms of gold medals and overall medals. And they were close in winning a few more, like the biathlon relay today, which Latypov threw away in the end, or the short track relay yesterday. Plus they have a few events to come in which they could get more golds, so i think they will pass some nations and settle around 5th-6th overall.

In terms of total medals, this will be Russia best performance as an independent nation outside of 2014 where they were the host nation.

Like Canada, the issue is Russia has been having difficulty converting their medals into gold.

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.
