Poland isn't too bad, maybe they left out a few people in athletics or decline to replace an injured athlete with another one. The Netherlands and Sweden are pretty bad, while in swimming for France they won't let you in unless you have a legit chance for a medal. rafalgorka
vinipereira 3,054 Posted August 11, 2018 #56 Share Posted August 11, 2018 Brazilian Olympic Committee wants to qualify 250 athletes for the Tokyo Olympics. I mostly agree with this number, even though I think they're a little optimistic. Archery: 4 2 1 Brazil should qualify an athlete for each of the individual events (and with some luck, maybe even a men's team) Artistic Swimming: 2 0 0 Federation doesn't seem to have much interest in this sport anymore and Brazil got worse in both events. A duet might be possible but even at the South American Games we didn't win gold. Athletics: 50 40 30 I have no idea but I will guess a number close to the last World Championship (39). Badminton: 2 1 1 Ygor Coelho should qualify in Men's Singles. Baseball: 0 Basketball: 12 0 0 It's sad but we probably won't see our female team at the Olympics for the first time since 1992. The men's team might qualify but I wouldn't bet on it. The federation has zero interest about 3x3 so no chance of qualification there. Beach Volleyball: 8 8 4 Brazil will easily reach the maximum quota here. Boxing: 6 3 2 Most of the best athletes from the last Olympic cycles are gone, but we should at least qualify 2 men and 1 woman. Canoeing - Slalom: 3 2 1 We should qualify 1 man (maybe 2) and 1 woman. Canoeing - Sprint: 6 5 3 Brazil has the potential to qualify a full team in Canoe (4 to 6 athletes). As for Kayak, I'm not sure about our chances. Cycling - BMX: 2 2 1 1 athlete from each gender. None for Freestyle. Cycling - Mountain Bike: 3 2 2 1 athlete from each gender (maybe even 2 men). Cycling - Road: 4 2 2 At least 1 for each gender, but maybe even more. Cycling - Track: 2 1 0 1 athlete? Maybe none. Diving: 3 1 0 Oof. That's a rough one. Most athletes from previous cycles are gone and the new generation is not that great. Maybe Ingrid Oliveira qualified, but I wouldn't be surprised if not. Equestrian: 11 9 6 Eventing and Jumping teams, I guess? + 1 in Dressage. Fencing: 8 6 4 1 Men's team (Foil?) + 3 individual athletes is possible. Field Hockey: 0 Football: 36 18 18 Women's team is already qualified. As for the men, it will be harder (only 2 qualification spots for South America and Brazil's under-20 team is not really that good). Golf: 2 1 1 No idea, maybe 1 man. Gymnastics - Artistic: 8 8 5 Both teams have a decent chance of qualifying, but I don't think we will qualify individual athletes that are not part of the teams (unless, of course, if one of the teams doesn't qualify). Gymnastics - Rhythmic: 6 0 0 It's hard to qualify in both events, but with the addition of Continental Championships as qualifications events, Brazil has a shot in groups. Gáudio is also better than she used to be in the individual event, so who knows... Gymnastics - Trampoline: 1 0 0 Extremely hard qualification. Handball: 28 14 14 Even if our level is not the same, I don't think we'll have much trouble in qualifying the women's team. About the men, it's always 50/50. Judo: 14 12 10 Some time ago, I would say Brazil could qualify a full team here, but right now we're really bad in some of the men's events. Karate: 4 2 2 Difficult qualification but Brazil has 3 athletes among the best in world rankings, which could indicate that they will at least qualify to Tokyo. Modern Pentathlon: 2 1 0 Nobody close to the level of Yane Marques but continental qualification might help us. Rowing: 3 1 0 Probably the one sport in which Brazil had zero progress in the last decade, not even with the home Olympics. But even being bad at this sport we usually manage to qualify a few athletes. Rugby Sevens: 12 12 0 The women's team will probably qualify. Sailing: 10 9 8 5 athletes (3 boats) are already qualified. 8 or 9 athletes (for a total of 6 or 7 boats) are very much possible. Shooting: 4 3 2 3 to 4 men are possible, I guess? Skateboarding: 10 8 6 Realistically, Brazil should qualify 2 athletes for each event (maybe even 3 in Street) Softball: 0 Sport Climbing: 0 Surfing: 4 4 3 Full quota. Swimming: 24 20 16 Like in the last world championships, Brazil should have a moderate number of athletes competing in the pool. It's likely that we'll also qualify 2 athletes in Marathon Swimming. Table Tennis: 6 4 4 Men's team + at least one athlete in Women's Singles (team is also possible). Taekwondo: 3 2 1 Very hard qualification. 1 man and maybe 1 woman should qualify. Tennis: 5 3 2 Dire situation in Men's Singles (I don't think we will qualify anyone via ranking, unless there is massive withdrawals). Men's Doubles and maybe 1 woman (Haddad Maia) can qualify. Triathlon: 2 2 1 1 athlete for each individual event. Volleyball: 24 24 24 Only a disaster could prevent Brazil of qualifying both teams. Water Polo: 11 0 0 Difficult for the men's team. Impossible for the women. Weightlifting: 4 2 1 Federation is too messy and is basically preventing some athletes of achieve better results. Reis should qualify but otherwise nothing is certain (probably 1 woman). Wrestling: 3 2 1 Qualification of 2 women is possible. Total Sports: 35 Optimistic Total Athletes: 352 Realistic Total Athletes: 236 Pessimistic Total Athletes: 176 rafalgorka

You still think so, even after the horror german fans had to witness at the european championships (especially in track events on the mens side)? EselTheDonkey 698 Posted August 11, 2018 #58 Share Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) Yes, I still think so. And I will continue to think so, no matter how bad some results will be. And I have seen many bad Championships from german athletes in different sports and none of these changed my mind. And aside from that: Despite some disappointments, which every federation had, I am very satisfied with the german athletes in Berlin. So far Germany has won the most medals, so clearly it couldn't have been all that horrible. Especially compared to Zürich four years ago, which really was a severe disappointment for Germany. Jan Linha 477 Posted September 23, 2018 #59 Share Posted September 23, 2018 (edited) CZECH REPUBLIC Keep editing this post. (Last update: 18:46CET) Archery: Currently there is nobody capable to qualify to Tokyo. Artistic Swimming: Czech Women's Team Czech synchronized swimming has been forming a young talented team which might succeed to qualify for Tokyo 2020. The first chance is that they finish 1st - 7th place at the World Aquatics championship 2019 in South Korea. If so, they will qualify team and automatically also a duet. The second chance would be at the 2020 Final Olympic qualifying tournament, where will be given other 3 spots for teams. Czech Women's Duet If Czech women's qualifies, automatically is qualified also duet. If not, there are other ways how to qualify a duet. First, Czech duet would have to place at the first position of non-qualified countries at the 2019 European champions Cup. Last chance would be at the final Olympic qualifying tournament, where will compete countries which will have not qualified any swimmers. There will be selected other 7 duets to compete at the Olympics. At the European baseball championships 2019 they have to place from 1st to 5th place to earn the spot in Europe/Africa qualifying event, which will be held in February 2020. At this event will be 6 teams and only 1 will make it to Olympics. If Czech team does not win this tournament, but will place second, earns the spot for the last qualifying event which will be held in March or April 2020. Six teams will compete. Three of the teams will come from runners-up in the qualifying events above (second place in Africa/Europe, second and third places in Americas). Two more spots in this event will be granted to the best two finishers in the 2019 Asian Baseball Championship that have not already qualified for the Olympics. The winner of the 2019 Oceania qualifying event will also earn a spot in this tournament. From this final qualifying tournament, only one team will make it to Olympics. Basketball: Czech Men's Basketball Team How to qualify: Czech team qualified after long 37 years to World Championships, which will be in 2019 in China. They can directly qualify to Olympics from there. No matter what place they will rank, they have to be at most second best European team. This will give them certainty to participate Tokyo 2020. If they will not succeed, there will be four tournaments of Olympic qualification to Tokyo 2020. Each tournament will participate 6 teams and only winner can make it to Olympics. Regarding Czech team qualified for the world championships and if they did not succeed to qualify directly to Olympics, they would probably have sure participation at the Olympic qualifying tournament. Czech Women's Basketball Team The only way to qualify for Czech Female team is to succeed in one fo the Olympic qualifying events, which will be held in 2020. Places and dates haven't been established. To earn spot at the Olympic qualifying tournament, Czech female basketball must place on 1st to 6th sport at Women's EuroBasket 2019. Czech Men's 3x3 Basketball Team First 4 teams in world ranking as of November 2019 will qualify automatically. Other 16 team will qualify for other 3 qualifying tournaments from which will qualify to Olympics one team from each tournament. Last spot will be given at 2020 FIBA Universality-driven Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where will be 5 highest non-qualified ranked teams. Baseball: 0 Basketball: 0-12 (men, 50/50 chance) Beach Volleyball: 0-4 Boxing: 1-2 Canoeing - Slalom: 0-1 Canoeing - Sprint: 2-10 (for sure K1 200 and 1000 in men, I don't know if there is still continental quota for K4) Cycling - BMX: 1-2 (could be two men -difficult- or one each gender) Cycling - Mountain Bike: 0-1 (men) Cycling - Road: 1-3 (men) Cycling - Track: 0-1 (omnium if he improves, but most likely nothing) Diving: 0 - this sport is currently inexistent Equestrian: 1-4 maybe we can qualify the jumping team again. Fencing: 2-3 (by ranking in women sabre/men epee, maybe continental quota in Women epee) Field Hockey: 32 Football: 0-18 (men) Golf: 1-2 (men only) Gymnastics - Artistic: 2 (men&women individual) Gymnastics - Rhythmic: 0 Gymnastics - Trampoline: 0 Handball: 0-14 (maybe the men can qualify, 50/50 against Brazil) Judo: 1-2 (Paula Pareto and... maybe someone else) Karate: 0-1 (it's a long shot) Modern Pentathlon: 1-2 (women for sure, men maybe) Rowing: 2-8 (for sure the singles, maybe the lightweight doubles and maybe men double sculls if they can improve a bit) Rugby Sevens: 12 (men) Sailing: 11-13 (everything except the 470s -men with light chance-) Shooting: 4-5 (10m air rifle m&w, skeet m&w and maybe we can qualify someone in trap or 3 positions) Skateboarding: 0 - no idea, but I don't think we have much chance. Softball: 0 Sport Climbing: 0 - no idea, we have good young climber girl for YOG but don't think she will have level to qualify for Tokyo. Surfing: 0 Swimming: 7-10 (women breastroke 100 and 200, women freestyle all except 100, men freestyle 50, 100, 200, women medley 200, 400, men butterfly 100, 200, open water women) Table Tennis: 0-1 (maybe one men) Taekwondo: 0-1 (maybe Lucas Guzmán can qualify this time) Tennis: 4 (full men team, no women) Triathlon: 1-2 Volleyball: 12-24 (men certainly and women depending on Brazil mostly) Water Polo: 0 Weightlifting: 0 - we're pathetic Wrestling: 1 - Bermúdez again in W freestyle. Total Sports: 21-32 Optimistic Total Athletes: 214 Realistic Total Athletes: Around 150 Pessimistic Total Athletes: 112 Pretty much agree with this. Not that confident with so many in athletics (will have to wait for standards) and swimming (right now we would have one swimmer with A mark I think) and I´m quite pessimistic about teams. Football who knows, basketball will be hard, handball is always a coin toss... I only see rugby and both hockey teams as sure things.
