They should start talking with Berlin, Budapest and Istanbul asap.

I'm pretty sure Madrid is also going to try and jump in that train knowing the city's polititians

I thought Madrid abandoned the 2036 bid. Why would they jump to an earlier one even?

It does seem like the Brisbane games aren't in any real risk of being cancelled, but the big project (rebuilding the Gabba) seems less and less likely to happen.

Yea, at this point mostly a lot of political bluster.  I don't think the IOC needs to be searching for an alternative just yet.

Think the IOC needs to be taught the lesson that they don't get a brand new Pharoah's Tomb every time.

Thing is Brisbane does need a new round stadium because the Gabba will be at end of life in less than 10 years. This is all politics because of the election this year.

I don't think the current proposal of using QSAC will last very long and it's objectively the worst of the three options.

It's not Australia that was adamant but the IOC that is adamant they won't allow the games outside of northern hemisphere summer and this rules out both Melbourne and Sydney. If the IOC weren't so busy catering to the desires of certain countries and their broadcasting networks we could have a games in Melbourne.

The IOC only allows the Games to be hosted in the July/August Hosting window.

Brisbane will be in winter when it hosts in July 2032 but their winter is a lot milder and drier than Sydney or Melbourne then when it is cold, wet and miserable.

So, Sydney, Melbourne and all southern Australian cities have zero chance of hosting an Olympics in the future.

Too bad, July and August kind of feel like the best times of year to visit both Sydney and Melbourne without worrying too much about melting away, and quite nice average temperatures :d

Brisbane at least seems to be not much worse, although June/July would have been slightly better...but like you said, IOC won't allow that :p

Because it is much further north, Brisbane’s weather during winter is much better, warmer and drier than either Sydney or Melbourne in July and August where it is wet, miserable and cold.

Sydney 2000 was given special one-off approval to hold those Games in September because of Sydney’s poor winter weather in July and August.

Logical, given the world's average preferences, but too bad. A Sydney or Melbourne Olympics might be my best chance ever for comfortable weather at a Summer Olympics, a rather rare opportunity :d
