Federer91 2,140 Posted August 9, 2022 #42 Share Posted August 9, 2022 Bulgaria is sending only 6 athletes at these Championships. It's safe to say, that along with football, it's the biggest downfall of a sport in our current history. It's truly amazing with the last 50 year history in this sport, that we are only able to send a team fitting a minnow state, let alone fight for finals, or a pipe dream of getting medals.. Like swimming is having a better, much better team currently, a sport, that has almost no tradition here. Tihomir Ivanov (M, High Jump) Georgi Nachev (M, Triple Jump) Mirela Demireva (W, High Jump) Alexandra Nacheva (W, Triple Jump) Militsa Mircheva (W, Marathon) Marinela Nineva (W, Marathon) justony and Makedonas 1
EselTheDonkey 698 Posted August 9, 2022 #43 Share Posted August 9, 2022 Malaika Mihambo had Corona, and there's a question mark behind her start in Munich.

Mitkova is basically ready for the senior stage with her jumps in Cali...it won't take long before she can make the global finals... the high jump guy (sorry, I don't remember his name at the moment) is more a long shot, but maybe he also has a chance to develop in a global medal contender in a few years... and you know, it only takes someone to ignite the spark and then the good tradition can always comeback... Only 24 athletes in womens Hugh jump. Why they did not invite sb other? They should get better this rankings and invitations for next time. You know, i saw those results last week, but i just can't feel optimistic about. Good junior athletes come and go (at least here) all the time, but only a select few make the transition to a good senior level. It's not only in athletics, but with all sports, there is just something broken in our system, that can't push juniors into the top of the senior level. Whether it's the financial situation, the coaching methods, the training preparations, the athletes desire and motivation, there is always something, that prevents the majority of juniors breaking through. And i'm sure this could be said for any country. Will see, what will happen with Mitkova. The same was being said about Alexandra Nacheva. World Champion, Youth Olympic Champion in 2018, bunch of other medals, big talent aaaand her PB is still from that 2018. 4 years after that, she hasn't shown any progress, better jumps, she is basically on the same junior level as she was, when 16-17. Just another example from the past 10 days. Apparently we won some fancy juniors women's tennis team cup and people were gushing what a prosperous group of girls we have, everyone is the best in their age group yada-yada (tennis has become a rising sport between kids, because of Grigor Dimitrov). I can bet a good amount, that those girls won't even reach the top 100 in the WTA in years time...

There is definitely no failure on the part of EA, but the federations with their selfish behavior are to blame.

Johannes Vetter will take part or German officials continue to being German officials as we all know them ?

The real problem with rankings is that some people that are qualified get injured and such, whilst some athletes that don't really have a chance to qualify anymore end their season, then get the invitation that they decline, because they are not prepared. That's how three of our athletes stayed at home.
