just another terrible day at the :ITA Spring Nationals

only 1 qualifying time for Fukuoka recorded Today.

Matteo Restivo (1.56.96, men's 200m Back)

the other champions:

Federico Burdisso (51.86, men's 100m Fly...Piero Codia was 2nd in 51.87)

Anita Gastaldi (1.00.92, women's 100m Back)

Ilaria Cusinato (2.09.03, women's 200m Fly)

Edoardo Giorgetti (34 years old!!! 2.12.34, men's 200m Breast)

Sara Curtis (born 2006, 25.12, women's 50m Free, also new Youth NR...maybe the only fresh air from Today's session)

Marco De Tullio (1.47.13, men's 200m Free...the race was a total disaster in perspective of the 4*200m Free Relay )

last day of the :ITA Spring Nationals

3 more qualifying times for Fukuoka

Simona Quadarella (4.05.83, women's 400m Free, 3rd pass and 4th title for her, top swimmer of the championships for sure)

Benedetta Pilato (30.08, women's 50m Breast, 29.84 in the morning heats)

Margherita Panziera (2.08.12, women's 200m Back)

the last champions:

Nicolò Martinenghi (26.90, men's 50m Breast, Simone Cerasuolo was second in 26.96)

Alberto Razzetti (4.14.37, men's 400m IM)

Gregorio Paltrinieri (14.49.02, men's 1500m)

Viola Scotto Di Carlo (26.22, women's 50m Fly)

in the end, it was a very modest championship with only 15 individual cards (12 swimmers) for Fukuoka and many clockings way below the expectations, especially by those athletes who were supposed to show an improvement in order to earn a ticket for Japan (we already knew that the top stars weren't going to show their best shape, that's not the problem in April).

only very good news, 2 or 3 juniors showing some stuff (especially the 16 year young Sara Curtis, capable of winning the title in the women's 50m Free and Alessandro Ragaini, also 16 years young, who looks to be the next good to great freestyle middle distance specialist among our boys).

Italian Federation will not take counts of this time

Okay, I’ve got a question about how this works quota wise then?

Hypothetically, if Deplano is the only Italian swimmer to swim a OQT in the men’s 50m freestyle during the qualification period, but he fails to do so at any of the championships counted by the federation, would they still turn down a quota in the event?

Basically, I’m asking if quota places should still be provisionally awarded to Italy here, or if there’s a possibility they will be declined.

In other sports we award quotas even if we know they won't be used. The quotas belong to Italy (or any other nation) until they have been declined. It's not like these provisional quotas are preventing other athletes/nations from qualifying in the event.
