Equestrian Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

Recommended Posts

Olympic ranking qualification simulation as of October 31st...

Jumping

Group A - :DEN :NOR

Group B - :ITA :POR

Group C - :LAT :GRE

Groups D/E - :VEN

Group F - :EGY :SYR

Group G - :NZL :THA

Overall - :LUX

Not much drama is happening here. :LBN Lebanon is close enough to :SYR Syria in the Group F to make a threat. :KOR South Korea may be able to catch up with :THA Thailand in the Group G.

Everyone else is pretty much fixed, even :LUX Luxembourg in the overall rankings.

Thanks for your nice work on equestrian qualification. Always enjoy to read it.

Quick question: I understand the qualification document for eventing that only 1 quota place can be allocated per NOC via Zone Groups. Only via World ranking it should be possible to qualify an additional individual athlete (up to 2 per NOC). Thus, technically CHN qualifies its second rider via World ranking and India should take the second Group G quota place, right?

According to the qualifying process, in each group there is only 1 place per country, China cannot take the 2 places in group G

That only applies to dressage and jumping. In eventing, a nation can qualify 2 places.

Yes, there is no limit per Group.

India's chance is if the Group D quotas get reallocated to the overall rankings, but the qualification system was not clearly written there so who knows.

The two (2)* highest ranked athletes in the FEI Olympic Ranking – Eventing from each of the seven (7) below-mentioned groups will qualify one (1) individual quota place each for their NOC

But that means one athlete will qualify one place, not that there is a limit to how many a nation can qualify.

I agree - If there is a limit on the number of quotas each NOC can qualify from a specific qualification pathway, it is explicitly laid out in the text of the document.

    • Despite total domination by the Norwegian men (and yes, it's exhausting and boring), the accomplishments this weekend of Emil Iversen and Einar Hedegart are worth highlighting, despite them being Norwegian.    Iversen was dropped by the Norwegian national team after the opener in Beitostølen 2 weeks ago and was not taken to Ruka. Instead, he won both the 10k and 20k Interval Classic starts in Gålå in the Norwegian Cup last week, which granted him a spot on the start line in Trondheim. He took full advantage of that opportunity and finished on the podium in the skiathlon, and finished just off the podium in today's 10k Interval Freestyle. This definitely puts his name in serious contention for a spot on the Olympic team, which looked incredibly doubtful just a few days ago.    Einar Hedegart, the 24-year-old biathlete who decided to challenge the stereotype that biathletes are inferior skiers to their cross-country counterparts, just won the 10k Interval Start against all of Norway's best in a de facto Olympic trial.    Yes, it's exhausting seeing nothing but Norwegian flags on the men's side, but there can be excitement just beneath the surface at times.
