Track Cycling Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

Recommended Posts

2024 PanAmerican Track Cycling Championships

Women's Team Sprint:

1.) :MEX Mexico

2.) :CAN Canada

3.) :USA USA

--------------------

4.) Colombia

5.) Brazil

Adjusted Olympic Rankings:

1.) :GBR Great Britain - 7500(Q)

2.) :CHN China - 7470 (Q)

3.) :GER Germany - 6960 (Q)

4.) :MEX Mexico - 6172.50 (Q)

5.) :POL Poland - 5868.75 (Q)

6.) :NZL New Zealand - 5790 (Q)

7.) :NED Netherlands - 5407.5 (Q)

8.) :FRA France - 5403.75

-------------------------------------

9.) :CAN Canada - 4852.50

Realistically, there is only 1 place left in the women's team sprint competition. :NED have a NC event in hand so providing they don't crash out in Milton, they are likely to move into a top 4/top 5 position.

The battle for the last quota comes down to France v's Canada. Canada are in the stronger position as they have a NC event in hand. They are currently just over 550 points behind France so Canada need to finish at least 9th in order to overtake France.

France can improve their position if they can finish 6th or higher and if they do, Canada needs to be no worse than 2 places behind them to secure the quota.

There's no GB in the line up for Milton and Germany are not sending their strongest team so we should see a win for either China or Netherlands but behind them, everyone will have a chance to get on the podium.

2024 PanAmerican Track Cycling Championships

Men's Team Pursuit:

1.) :USA USA

2.) :COL Colombia

3.) :CAN Canada

--------------------

4.) Chile

5.) Mexico

6.) Argentina

Adjusted Olympic Rankings:

1.) :DEN Denmark - 9285 (Q)

2.) :NZL New Zealand - 9230 (Q)

3.) :AUS Australia - 9000 (Q)

4.) :ITA Italy - 8800 (Q)

5.) :JPN Japan - 7770 (Q)

6.) :GER Germany - 7300 (Q)

7.) :GBR Great Britain - 7233 (Q)

8.) :FRA France - 7050 (Q)

9.) :CAN Canada - 6690 (Q)

10.) :BEL Belgium - 6395 (Q)

------------------------------------

11.) :CHN China - 5450

12.) :USA USA - 4824

Technically, China could catch Belgium but in order to do that, China need to finish at least 7th in Milton and Belgium finish no better than 10th. It's not impossible for that to happen as the field in Milton for this event is one of the weaker ones with no Denmark, New Zealand, Australia or Germany (according to the provisional entry lists at least).

If the weaker field can benefit China, it could do the same for Belgium - these teams are pretty closely matched with the head to head tied at 2-2. I fully expect Belgium to finish higher than their current discard score of 10th - not exactly a bold prediction given there are only 11 nations competing! - so in order for China to get the last quota, I think they will need to finish at least 2 places higher than Belgium.

Nothing to see here.... the field for Paris is set. The only question now is what the starting order will be.

@Adriano congrats on the eventual quota in men’s team sprint :)

Canada doesn’t deserve it IMO, losing to Colombia is inexcusable.

Can you spread what happened  with your team? Last AC you won, now lost with Columbia. In Milton 3rd place and now this kind of level? Some changes, injuries? We still need finish 1 place higher in Milton

I think Colombia had a B team last year if I'm not mistaken.

No, I’m not this time. I really don’t think Canada has a chance anymore. All it takes for Canada is Poland finishing ahead of us, and with our A-squad losing to a Colombian team (!!) that’s 15th in the Olympic Rankings it seems inevitable.  Of course there’s still a chance but I’m not feeling very optimistic. Same thing in surfing, right when Brooks went to the repechage I mourned her chances and she bowed out a couple of heats later.

    • Please do not bring this idea to Sindo
    • Tahli/Dean    Probably just as disappointed as the Australians on here are
    • Gotta feel for  defending world bronze medalists, but couldn't make it to the Olympics
    • with a steal of 3 in the 8th end,  can't make the last shot to stay alive.
    • Oh yea.  Seemed like they were starting to get some less than elite pitchers, but the commits they've had in the last 12 hours have been stellar.  Now the staff feels like an embarrassment of riches.  They have 3 elite starters and a bunch of guys that can eat innings.  Thrilled what Mark DeRosa has been able to put together.
    • It looks like you guys will be juuuuust fine.   Tarik Skubal, Logan Webb, Joe Ryan and Nolan McLean all committed within the last couple of days.
    • Yay for no disqualifications! Thanks @OlympicIRL for all the work! Getting close.
    • I think 's athlete probably earned enough points today in the Quals of Halfpipe to get the nod.  Will need to wait for confirmation, but I think so.
