Summer Olympic Games 2020 Medal Count

Recommended Posts

With Belarus and Sweden enter to medal table today from Europe those countries remain without medal :ALB:AND:ARM:BIH:CYP:ISL:LIE:LTU:LUX:MLT:MDA:MON:MNE

Armenia might have medal in wrestling, Bosnia in athletics, Cyprus in sailing and Montenegro in an team sport. I dont see medal chances for other countries. Lithuania is the biggest negative surprise here. Or maybe Im wrong and Lithuania have any chance left?

After Day 8 Rio: 139/306 events, 64 NOCs with medals

After Day 8 Tokyo: 154/339 events, 76 NOCs with medals

Only 10 more countries left until the Rio number of 86 NOCs winning medals is equalled. It's looking very good seeing as for example Armenia or Kenya are still to join. Speaking of distribution, the :USA US had twice as many golds in Rio (24-18-19) than the second-placed :CHN Chinese team (12-11-17). The current Top 3 are finding themselves much closer together than five years ago (:GBR with 10-13-7 in Rio). We might see :JPN Japan slowing down a bit with judo finished, although women's wrestling is next.

The :TPE Taiwanese badminton gold already guarantees them their best performance ever (2-2-1 in Athens 2004).

4th place counter*

(18) :USA

(13) :GBR

Dang, the end of the Rowing looks like a fatal blow to :GBR's chances of winning the prestigious Fourth Place Counter / Wooden Medal championships.  On the bright side, the end of the Swimming could similarly strand :USA

I know it will be a lot of work, but have you considered making some kind of Placing Table (1 point for a 8th place, 2 for a 7th, etc.)

I don't think we need something like that as Zodo has a similar simulation going:

A lot of these may already exist for individual sports, so can be hoovered up from there. It’s a standard measure sports use.

    • Well, I'm sad and happy at the same time. I'm happy because I expected it and we're not taking a spot away from a country that deserved it more.   But, we used to be one of the leading basketball countries, we were world champions and Olympic runners-up. Now we can't even qualify for a world tournament anymore, always losing to teams like Puerto Rico, a declining Serbia, an ascending Germany, and now being left out by the hardworking Czech Republic and Mali...   The worst part is that there won't be any improvement. Nobody cares about losers, nobody cares about women's basketball here. The national league is terrible, there are no young players, the national federation doesn't care...

    • Well, let be real for a second here and not fly on parallel universe  the ONLY chance for Slovakia to take part to this is when Russia will not be invited.    And Seriously, I would not bet a single leaky penny on that to happen.   Imagine a tournament run by the most greedy businessemen on earth NHL lords, with the right to invite whoever they want and make whatever rules they want... and not inviting to their own tourney Russia who has more than 50 NHL stars in the league right now including the likes of Kaprizov, Vasilevskiy, Kucherov, Demidov, Malkin or Shestorkin.  Come on ! Not gonna happen, Russians will be there and will make the semis where they will lose to one of the 2 North-Americans before the Canada-USA scripted final.   Do not fall into the trap, this is all just for money.   And since Germany is a bigger and obviously more interesting market than us and have the superstars Drai and Stutzle to bring they will be picked as 8th over Slovakia on any day. Switzerland being the clear seventh for their bigger amount of NHLers is obviously as well.
