Si conclude oggi un Campionato d'Europa indoor disastroso, pieno di rimpianti e delusioni, dalla staffetta fino a Chesani passando per Dariya Derkach fino ai lunghisi, citando Tumi e Hooper... insomma, lo stato dell'atletica italiana lo conoscevamo da anni, la regressione della Nazionale azzurra, che spesso non sa programmare il grande evento e che viene affossata ogni mese che passa dalla stessa federazione guidata da Alfio Giomi e colleghi, sembra non finire mai. L'unico sorriso della manifestazione ci è stata regalata da un ragazzo di 40 anni, l'eterno campione Fabrizio Donato che si è arreso solo all'imbattibile portoghese Evora. Una sola medaglia d'argento, ma questo dato, seppur sintomo di una continua regressione del movimento italiano, nasconde addirittura il vero peso specifico dell'Italia sul panorama europo. Nonostante 28 atleti convocati le finali conquistate sono solo 8: 1 argento, 1 quarto posto, 2 sesti posti, 3 settimi posti, 1 ottavo posto. Solo due azzurri sono tra i primi cinque atleti indoor:imbarazzante. Certo, c'erano alcuni defezioni (Torst-Rossit-Fassinotti su tutti), qualche infortunio (Tamberi) e scellerate scelte federazionali (nessun azzurra convocata nei 400m): queste posso essere delle scusanti ma non devono assolutamente essere un alibi.
