  1. Ah shit, LA (area) has the biggest Iranian diaspora in the world (I believe). We’re toast
  2. @Dragon has kindly supplied us with another edition of Totally Rewind: https://games24.totallympics.com/?p=1730
  3. I’m stuck learning Spanish I want to learn something exotic like Icelandic, Cherokee, etc. but I just don’t have the time.
  4. China is a great place for the international sports fan, unfortunately that’s about where the compliments have to stop.
  5. I concur with the majority. Duolingo is great! You can also learn High Valerian while you’re on there Just as a helpful tip to everyone (and not just AIFHg), Duolingo is a great place to practice your English if you feel a bit uncomfortable with it.
  6. Yep, I even checked my registration to make sure I was eligible, but it didn’t even cross my mind to change parties (I didn’t plan to until after 2020)
  7. Shit is hitting the fan. First Korea, Japan, Iran all having active clusters of the disease now. Here’s an article on the situation in Korea:
  8. Hahahahaha, one of the movie studios involved in the production of the movie just tweeted this out.
  9. I don’t think that ever happened. It also gave a very clear picture of what to expect in November. It also allowed people to rise above party affiliation, and really vote for who they wanted too. Now, I don’t even get vote in any of the primaries (maybe). My “party” didn’t make the ballot (and I really should have changed my affiliation because I no longer affiliate with that party, but I didn’t think it would matter).
  10. Yes, that was the exact system for years, and that’s how it still is in every other race besides US President now. Anyone with enough support can get on the California Ballot (with the parties generally being Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, Green, Peace and Freedom, and American Independent). The California Constitution (the longest in the world) also has clause that means Californians vote on what Amendments to add to the Constitution. These are called Propositions, and we generally vote on 6-15 in every general election. We vote in all judges, city officials, school officials, water officials, and other positions. California elections are based on the top 2 system. Top 2 candidates in the primary advance to the general election regardless of party affiliation (except for US President). For example, the last Senate seat election came down to 2 democrats. We also have “recall” elections. It’s like being impeached by the people in a sense. If enough people provide signatures for a recall (somewhere above 1,000,000), then one can take place. So, I consider California to be the most democratic place in the world (or at least one of the most).
  11. Well, California has always been a state that’s endorsed total democracy. Apparently they’ve changed those rules regarding the presidential race now. I hate national influence in California politics.
  12. But in the same town/metro area, on the same days, at the same hours?
  13. A) He definitely didn’t watch the film (probably because his tiny little nutsack of a brain couldn’t handle reading the subtitles (I’m not actually sure he’s literate sometimes)) B) He sounds like a fucking idiot C) Asks to bring a well-known racially insensitive movie back, because of course.
  14. Just got my voting notice! California primary starts in 2 days. I guess it’s time to make a decision Edit: Oh fuck, I’m not registered as a Democrat. The party might bar me from voting in the primary. Whelp, here’s to hoping I can get that straightened out at the polls
  15. @NearPup that is a great take. I’d only add that relays make the most sense for mixed events. Men and women can compete in that format under their traditional distances (and against their own gender), and still work as a team to achieve a medal.
  16. We’ve actually had some close results this tournament, which is great Looking at tomorrow’s games: The semifinals are as cut and paste as they’ve been in years passed. Finland only lost to Sweden by one goal, so the ability to upset is there. Norway also has home advantage against Russia, but I actually feel like Russia is a safe bet for the final. USA v. JPN is quite an intriguing match. I think we’ll beat Japan, but it’s hard to say since we’ve never played them at the world championships level before. Estonia should roll over Switzerland.
  17. I feel like your constant complaining about everything, and constant putdowns directed at others as some more to ruin this thread, but whatever. I admitted guilt for talking about Poland that way, and I even went to great lengths to personally apologize to you. I’ve done what I could to rectify issue. However, you’ve continuously brought it up, and from what you’ve said about “Polish views” and your recent election...let’s just I haven’t really been proven wrong. I’d love to know when I’ve played the victim card, I had a good laugh when I read that.
  18. Says the dude losing his freaking mind right now! Me and @Werloc are having a nice, civil discussion about the relay issue. You can go ahead and see yourself out the door buddy.
  19. Sorry? I guess I can’t talk about sport anymore. I don’t want to offend you further
  20. @Maxim Fastovsky the US Olympic Trials for Table Tennis are in Santa Monica this year. Unfortunately they’re on the same freaking weekend as the Rugby and Climbing events! What kind of scheduling is this?
  21. I’m a bit conflicted when it comes to this. I totally get what your saying, and I agree that it’s a positive thing for athletes. But if the athletes that would be affected by the change can’t even earn a medal without the team event, have they really earned medal? I understand relays open the door for Norway #4, #5, #6 (as well as other powerhouse countries) to get a medal, but should we be rewarding those athletes? I also understand of course that some of these athletes actually end up playing a key role in relay victories, so that’s where I’m torn. I agree that it’s not fair to cut these athletes out, but I also think that athletes being carried to medals is unfair to the other athletes.
  22. So talking about an IOC initiative, and the ways it could be enforced in biathlon, in a biathlon thread is political now? I guess talking about national depth, and relays is political too? I have a feeling Orwell would be on my side here buddy. You’re the one trying to restrict views that against yours. Someone didn’t read Animal Farm or 1984...
  23. What about what I said was political? I get gender equality is a contentious issue, but I felt I stayed away from the politics of it. I simply stated why an event would be suited to replace two others. What I wrote above is completely about sport whether you agree with it or not.
