  1. You clearly haven’t attempted to interact with the OCA enough, or watched their events. Honestly, Athletics Canada seems equally responsible in this case. I do feel like PanamSports has managed quota distribution poorly this cycle, however.
  2. Yes, that I wanted to learn more about kabaddi after the 2018 Asian Games, so I could follow the sport. I found very little international infrastructure in place. The sport has a lot of potential, in my opinion, but they need to get serious about development and promotion.
  3. How dumb. Rain shouldn’t be a huge issue in LA, but this tournament hasn’t exactly got me “chomping at the bit” for cricket being included in the Olympics.
  4. Official Announcement The entry deadline has passed. Those already registered who have NOT submitted a song will be given the weekend the select their entry. All remaining deadlines are still valid as written on the first post of the thread.
  5. Not much information available yet, but the results system is here: https://results-santiago2023.org/#/schedule/calendar
  6. You and @Fly_like_a_don can form a multiple person jury for India. As he hasn’t yet nominated a song, you guys can message each other to choose a representative. I can give you guys an extension on the deadline to come a decision if needed.
  7. @Hipooo any preference regarding your nation’s name: Czechia or Czech Republic?
  8. Paralympic flame will be lit in Stoke-Mandeville from now on. Link: https://www.paralympic.org/news/paralympic-flame-be-created-stoke-mandeville-all-future-paralympic-games
  9. No, they haven’t returned an AAF yet. joined the party though (one weightlifter).
  10. I have no problem with that. Just try to submit your entry as soon as possible during the weekend.
  11. Official Announcement There are just over 24 hours remaining to enter the contest and select a song. I will allow for a bit of a grace period, but please give me a “heads up” if you need more time. I will post a YouTube and Spotify playlist on Sunday.
  12. I don’t have a problem with it. I can bump my voting deadline by a day or two, or just cycle your song in.
  13. Classic OCA format L
  14. will send 522 athletes to Santiago. Link: https://www.coarg.org.ar/component/k2/item/13400-santiago-2023-delegacion-argentina
  15. 6 AAFs so far according to the ITA. - 2 (both male, both athletics) - 1 (male boxer) - 1 (female cyclist) - 1 (men’s silver medalist in kurash) - 1 (male cyclist) Full list here: https://ita.sport/sanction/asian-games-hangzhou/
  16. It has to be pretty embarrassing to finish last in your event, and then return AAF Results Link: https://info.hangzhou2022.cn/en/results/athletics/result-men-s-3000m-steeplechase-fnl-000100-.htm second AAF in athletics at Hangzhou 2022…
  17. For those in need of a good laugh, or cry, about the current state of boxing I suppose…
  18. getting a medal in the men’s road race seems like a very unexpected result. Too bad this wasn’t the Asian Championships, otherwise they’d have an Olympic quota in their pocket.
  19. Do you have a preference as to the spelling of your nation? I’ve noticed “Qazaqstan” is becoming more fashionable lately.
  20. Besides the outliers (both hosts of sub-regional multi-sports games), the trend of smaller delegations continues. I’m more concerned about representation across sports though. I have the stats from 2007-2019, so it will be interesting to compare.
  21. Missed this last week, but are now members of the IPC. Link: https://www.paralympic.org/news/paralympic-family-grows-208-ipc-welcomes-five-new-members
  22. Basically, each user chooses a song for their nation (in this case it must be older than 5 years). Users then listen to all the selected songs and rank their favorites. Voting works just like Eurovision, with a live reveal happening country-by-country during the “grand final.” The main commitment for users is listening to the songs and ranking them. TISC is a fun way to interact with other users and learn a bit about each other’s cultures. It’s definitely not mandatory, but it’s a nice supplementary activity to regular operations of the forum. I’m happy to explain anything else if needed. If you wish to participate on behalf of Egypt or the UK, please indicate your interest (and select a song) by Friday. If you don’t wish to participate, see you in other threads
  23. I’m just going to “spit-ball” with laundry list of ideas and potential connections to science. 1) Bobsleigh design/mechanics as it relates to aerodynamics, friction, and weight distribution. 2) Evolutionary advantages/disadvantages when it comes to swimming. With swimming, you could also talk about the “super suits” and why they were so effective a decreasing times. 3) Energy return in shoes. Hot topic in athletics at moment. You could also look into energy return in different surfaces (grass, sand, mud, asphalt, concrete, cobblestone) 4) The breathing techniques behind free diving. 5) There’s quite a bit you could go with head injuries in various sports (football, American football, rugby, cycling, bobsleigh, skateboarding, etc.) 6) I believe there’s data that states female athletes are suffering joint injuries at a higher rate than men (at least in football), maybe you could look into the scientific theories about that. It’s a bit of a research hot spot in the U.S. at the moment. 7) Wheel hardness in skateboarding and in-line skating. You could look into the chemicals used and how it affects performance in various environments/disciplines. 8) There was that guy who went skydiving without a parachute a few years back (landed in a large net), surely there’s something about physics there. 9) tidal forces and how they impact surfing. Tidal bore surfing might be an interesting case study. 10) The science behind a lot of the para sports is probably interesting (sit-skis, racing wheelchairs, tandem bikes). 11) You could do a case study on athletics with unique biological advantages like Eero Mäntyranta. Link: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/magic-blood-and-carbon-fiber-legs-at-the-brave-new-olympics/ ESPN had/has a nice series of short videos on sport science. I’m not sure if this playlist is available outside the US (I’m also pretty sure it’s not complete), but I’m sure you could clips on YouTube. Link: Hopefully you find some of that helpful @ManuCHIL
  24. I travel to Malta and this is how they repay me
