  1. NBC really did a full-on inquisition with that interview though. I mean…making the guy re-watch the race on a monitor and narrate where it went wrong seems like a step too far to me. Athletes are still people as much as pundits/fans want them to be robots. Bottom line, it isn’t how I conduct interviews.
  2. Let’s play a round of women’s basketball then
  3. L.A. just experienced a minor earthquake during the middle of a tropical storm. Plenty to talk about at the dinner table this evening 😅
  4. I’d agree that’s an example of a bad mixed relay. For swimming, I’d drop the gendered 4x100 Free and 4x200 Free in favor of mixed relays, but leave the mixed medley gendered, since it makes more sense in that format. I don’t agree there. If you have a strong men’s program, but a weaker women’s program, you don’t have depth. You have gender disparity in performance. Personally, I think mixed relays have the potential to be a more wholistic measure of team depth. However, as you point out, it doesn’t help if nations won’t take those events seriously.
  5. I really don’t see what everyone dislikes about it. It’s just like the other relays. Plus, like I said above, it could help save quotas in the long run. I really think gendered relays should be dropped from multi-sports games when/where possible. There’s too many “relay only” athletes who take up quotas that could be used elsewhere.
  6. Athletics is just about the only sport my father and I watch together. I will remember Crosser’s throw and Bol’s fall for a while. A pretty eventful start to champs at least.
  7. The “easy way” to fix some of that would be to cut down on the number of duplicate races, namely the m/w 4x400m. You could save some quotas that way too.
  8. They aren’t used to being above sea-level. Probably got too tired at these high altitudes
  9. really couldn’t catch a break this morning, could they?
  10. The back of his uniform has a gorgeous Latin American-style mural on it as well. More race uniforms like that please! https://x.com/justin_britton/status/1692896903044722952?s=46&t=eeNhSzi4Rylqjvpt-IBinQ
  11. Crouser is dealing with blood clots, but he still expects to throw in Budapest.
  12. I still haven’t found anything, and I’ve been looking for a few days now
  13. There are some really bad fires ongoing in Canada as well. Kelwona and Yellowknife seem to be the communities most affected from the reporting I’ve seen.
  14. The first ever tropical storm watch was issued for part of Southern California today. Baja California (the peninsula that’s part of Mexico) might take the worst of the storm, but it might still severely impact Southern California. The foothills outside my town are supposed to get an obscene amount of rain by out standards. Hopefully our drainage improvements in the last two/three decades haven’t been for nothing.
  15. Yeah, the last elections shook stuff up. It’s notable since they are still a member of CIS. They are the only member besides Ukraine that hasn’t attended the CIS Games or University Sports Festival in Russia. Its unfortunate many BRICS and SCO members haven’t followed their lead on this.
  16. 36 countries have entered athletes into Russia’s abridged (and unaffiliated) University Games. They’ve basically left their plans for the 2023 FISU Summer University Games in place, but turned it to a competition for BRICS, SCO, and CIS nations. the notable absences amongst those political organizations. Link: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1139958/international-university-sports-festival will also compete as a separate nation, so I’m sure that won’t cause any controversy
  17. Well, that’s certainly not an ideal situation after such fantastic world championships for Link: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1139938/world-aquatics-australia-expulsion
  18. Medal design has been revealed: https://www.panamsports.org/news-sport/santiago-2023-presents-the-official-medals-of-the-games-at-ceremony-in-the-chilean-desert/ I like the Chilean motif on the frontside, but I’m not sure about the logo disc in the center. Lima 2019 still ranks highly amongst my favorite designs.
  19. Spotify is really convinced I’m going to enjoy Kwiat Jabłoni, but I’m not convinced yet
  20. https://x.com/bnonews/status/1691953170426081391?s=46&t=eeNhSzi4Rylqjvpt-IBinQ The last time a tropical storm made in landfall in California was 1939.
  21. Yeah, artistic skating had some rather low entry numbers in 2010. There doesn’t seem to be much interest in the discipline at regional level (Pan Ams just finding enough entries to fill the quotas).
  22. @Wumo you haven’t even got to “Taekwondo - Olympic Upgrade” yet Why does this event have to be a massive clusterfuck every cycle? African countries can clearly organize multi-sports events without it turning into some massive debacle (Abidjan 2017, Sal 2019 being a great examples). Also, shout-out to “scrabble” for making its multi-sport games debut
  23. East Asian Youth Games get underway in Ulaanbaatar today. They are meant to replace the now defunct East Asian Games (last held in 2013). wasn’t invited by the looks of things, and it appears didn’t send any athletes.
