Day 14 (August 9, 2024) (Side note, yes I’m posting this before I’ve finished most of my predictions, because when I did this last night my page refreshed, and all the content went away. Three hours… wasted. )

If you’re curious on the rest of my predictions, come back to this thread in around 8 hours and I’ll have the rest of my predictions/updated medal table up hopefully

    Athletics- Women’s 4x100m Relay
    Gold-  Jamaica
    Silver-  United States
    Bronze-  Côte D’Ivorie

United States and Jamaica way ahead of the rest of the field, but ultimately Jamaica grabs gold. Marie José Ta Lou with a great anchor leg for Côte D’Ivorie to overtake Great Britain for bronze.

    Athletics- Women’s Shot Put
    Gold-  Chase Ealey
    Silver-  Gong Lijiao
    Bronze-  Jessica Schlider

Chase Ealey way ahead of the rest of the field, with a mark of 21.02m. First time over 21m for Ealey!

    Athletics- Men’s 4x100m Relay
    Gold-  United States
    Silver-  Canada
    Bronze-  Jamaica

IMO @rafalgorka I think you’re severely underestimating the Canadians, who won gold at last years Worlds, and bronze and silver at the Rio 2016/Tokyo 2020 Olympics with the same four (DeGrasse, Brown, Rodney, Blake) athletes. Sure, they failed to advance from prelims at this years Worlds, but that squad was without Andre DeGrasse (our star sprinter) who chose to focus on the men’s 200m final (that happened after) rather than the men’s 4x100m heats. Canada was in a qualification position until the last leg, where Bolade Ajomale (heats runner at best) was something like 0.5s behind the rest of the field (Maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but you get my point )

Anyways, with Andre DeGrasse back in peak form (no recent 100m time to judge from, but a 19.76 at the DL Final shows he’s definitely back on track) after years plagued by injuries and covid, we should be one of the medal favourites.

    Athletics- Women’s 400m
    Gold-  Sydney McLaughlin
    Silver-  Marileidy Paulino
    Bronze-  Sada Williams

McLaughlin does the double! First medal for Barbados at Paris! Reigning Olympic Champion Bahama’s Shaunae Miller-Uibo 5th.

    Athletics- Men’s Triple Jump
    Gold-  Pedro Pichardo
    Silver-  Hugues Fabrice Zango
    Bronze-  Jaydon Hibbert

Reigning Olympic champion strikes gold yet again, for Portugal’s first gold medal at Paris! Best ever result for Burkina Faso at the Olympics! (Previous best was Fabrice Zango who won bronze at Tokyo 2020)

    Cuba’s Christian Nápoles 4th, Italy’s Andy Diaz Hernandez 5th, Cuba’s Lázaro Martinez 6th, Will Claye 7th, Yasser Triki 8th.

    Athletics- Women’s Heptathlon
    Gold-  Anna Hall
    Silver-  Nafi Thiam
    Bronze-  Anouk Vetter

Thiam leads Hall heading into the final event, but Hall with a massive 2:04 low in the 800m to win the gold medal. Both Thiam and Hall record marks over 7,000pts, and are well ahead of the rest of the field.

    Athletics- Women’s 10,000m
    Gold-  Sifan Hassan
    Silver-  Gudaf Tsegay
    Bronze-  Letesenbet Gidey

After disappointment in the women’s 5,000m, where she failed to podium, Sifan Hassan grabs gold in the women’s 10,000m!

    Athletics- Men’s 400m Hurdles
    Gold-  Karsten Warholm
    Silver-  Rai Benjamin
    Bronze-  Kyron McMaster

First ever Olympic medal for British Virgin Islands!

Beach Volleyball- Women’s Tournament (For prediction purposes, I’ll just do women’s first, but the schedule isn’t completely out yet, it could be the men’s medal matches)

    Gold-  Ana Patricia/Duda
    Silver-  Taryn Kloth/Kristen Nuss
Bronze-  Melissa Humana-Parades/Brandie Wilkerson (probably one of my biggest medal hopes, Canada still hasn’t won an Olympic beach volleyball medal, and we’ve had three women’s teams reach the quarterfinals at Rio 2016/Tokyo 2020)

No medal for reigning World champions United States’s Kelly Cheng/Sara Hughes (hopefully, I can’t stand Cheng) as they lose 1-2 in the quarterfinals to fellow teammates Kloth/Nuss.

    Boxing- Women’s 50kg
    Gold-  Buse Cakiroglu
    Silver-  Wu Yu

    Football- Men’s Tournament
    Gold-  France
    Silver-  Brazil

    Football- Women’s Tournament
    Bronze-  Australia

3-2 win over Canada.  Unfortunately, that means Canada’s streak of Olympic podiums in women’s football ends at three.

    Field Hockey- Women’s Tournament
    Gold-  Argentina
    Silver-  Australia

Equipment rules (specifically bindings and their height), which coincidently our guys were using prior to the OG 2022, but were then instantly banned overnight.
Ban on fluor in ski wax
    Safety straps are now mandatory
New jersey rules and measurement equipment

Some of the new rules are explained here. Most of our team both men and women have been critical of the new rules, even the coaches.
E: Here's is an article in slovenian. In it you have Granerud saying that he got injured because of the new rules in the summer.

    244. ATHLETICS - W 4x100m Relay

    1. United States
    2. Jamaica
    3. Ivory Coast

After all the 100m and 200m and all the NBC hype this is an event which will be remembered for a long time. Jamaicans don't have great first 2 changes and Sha'Carri has a nice lead beginning the anchor leg. Shericka Jackson chasing hard but comes just short. CIV doesn't mess things up like in Budapest and they get awesome bronze. GBR 4th. POL nicely 6th with great anchor leg by Ewa Swoboda.

    245. ATHLETICS - W Shot Put

    1. Chase Ealey USA
    2. Sarah Mitton CAN
    3. Auriol Dongmo POR

    Ealey winning quite comfortably.

    246. ATHLETICS - M 4x100m Relay

    1. Unites States
    2. Jamaica
    3. Japan

Great run by Japanese sprinters who deny Italians, Jacobs messed things a bit this time and ITA only 4th.

    247. ATHLETICS - W 400m

    1. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone USA
    2. Marileidy Paulino DOM
    3. Natalia Kaczmarek POL

Great competition between McLaughlin and Paulino. Wonderful medal for POL here, absolutely amazing. Natalia with new NR - 49.21 (previous NR: 49.28 set by Irena Szewińska when she won gold in Montreal 1976). Great traditional finish by Natalia made this bronze possible. This is my "Rebeca Andrade Tokyo-Like Moment" @thiago_simoes. I cherish Polish ind running medals so much, they are so rare... Shaunae Miller-Uibo BAH back in competition but not in such a good form, and this is the main factor that leads 3rd place possible for Poland. If she was running under 49secs and McLaughlin is there, Natalia had no chances. Anyway, 4. Miller-Uibo BAH 5. Williams BAR 6. Klaver NED 7. Adeleke IRL 8. Bolingo BEL. Only one US athlete in the final but she gets gold for Team US.

    248. ATHLETICS - M Triple Jump

    1. Andy Diaz Hernandez ITA
    2. Hugues Fabrice Zango BUR
    3. Jaydon Hibbert JAM

    Havana likes this one...

    249. ATHLETICS - W Heptathlon

    1. Nafissatou Thiam BEL
    2. Katarina Johnson-Thompson GBR
    3. Anna Hall USA

Hall messes things much and this lets Thiam to get 3rd olympic heptathlon gold in a row, coming back from injury. KJT very emotional in the victory lap, you rarely see anything like that.

    250. ATHLETICS - W 10,000m

    1. Gudaf Tsegay ETH
    2. Sifan Hassan NED
    3. Grace Loibach Nawowuma KEN

Only first gold for Ethiopia in Paris. What took them so long? I have to check ETH chances again...

    251. ATHLETICS - M 400m Hurdles

    1. Rai Benjamin USA
    2. Karsten Warholm NOR
    3. Alison Dos Santos BRA

Ha! Benjamin denies Tokyo olympic champ on the last 20m. We've seen Warholm running much faster before but this time he managed to clear all the hurdles according to the rules heh... McMaster 4th for IVB. So no olympic medal for them.

    252. BEACH VOLLEYBALL - W Tournament (but it could be M - the schedule is not clear here)

    1. Ana Patricia Ramos, Eduarda "Duda" Santos Lisboa BRA
    2. Sara Hughes, Kelly Cheng USA
    3. Tina Graudina, Anastasija Samoilova LAT

Tina - Anastasija get a nice bronze but earlier they put on a furious SF battle against Hughes/Cheng losing 1-2 like in 2023 WCH but only 16-18 in 3rd set. Great BRA - USA final in a wonderful scenery in the evening close to the Eiffel Tower. Beach volleyball gets to be one of the most popular sport in Paris olympics. Deserved that for sure.

    253. BOXING - W 50kg

    1. Buse Cakiroglu TUR
    2. Wu Yu CHN
    3. Ingrit Valencia COL

    1. Busenaz Surmeneli TUR
    2. Yang Liu CHN
    3. Charlie Cavanaugh CAN
    3. Ivanusa Moreira Gomes CPV

Turks go mad - 2 wins one by one!!! Ivanusa gets her bronze but i need to check this event once again after Day 16 for sure. Anyway, Ivanusa - cool name.

    255. BOXING - M 71kg

    1. Julio Cesar La Cruz CUB
    2. Aziz Abbes Mouhidiine ITA
    3. Davlat Boltaev TJK
    3. Jack Marley IRL

CUB vs ITA - what an amazing bout! Just awesome. Oh, we were waiting for sth like that for so long. Boxing is back, many say. This final will be still talked about when boxing finals will get started at Warsaw 2044 olympics...

    1. India Sardjoe aka India NED
    2. Dominika Banevic aka Nicka LTU
    3. Liu Qingyi aka 671 CHN

LTU would prefer to get a basketball medal but if it is denied, they celebrate what is possible. POL would love to celebrate M high jump medal but if it is denied... Or wait, Norbert Kobielski made it to the Saturday final, let's see what he can do...

    260. CANOE SPRINT - W K2 500m

    1. Denmark
    2. New Zealand
    3. Poland

    261. DIVING - W 3m Springboard

    1. Chen Yiwen CHN
    2. Chang Yani CHN
    3. Maddison Keeney AUS

    1. Darja Varfolomeev GER

Here’s the teams have been confirmed for all three OQTs so far. (UOQT1/UOQT2/OQT)

    Universality Olympic Qualification Tournament (TBD)
    Host:
FIBA 3x3 World Rankings:  Netherlands,  Hungary,  Azerbaijan,  Egypt,  Mongolia,  Chile, TBD

Think Hungary will grab the quota, but I wouldn’t count out Netherlands, Azerbaijan or even Mongolia.

I believe this event will be held in Israel? But FIBA 3X3 isn’t updating that information on their site for some reason

Universality Olympic Qualification Tournament 2 (May 3-5, 2024 in Utsunomiya, Japan)
    Host:  Japan
    Africa Cup 2023:  Kenya
    AmeriCup 2023:  Brazil
    Asia Cup 2023:  Australia
    Europe Cup 2023:  Netherlands
World Cup 2023:  Canada,  Germany,  Austria

Hard to imagine the quota not going to one of Canada, Australia, or Germany. Canada is the (somewhat heavy) favourite though.

    Olympic Qualification Tournament (Debrecen, Hungary)
    Host:  Hungary
    Federation Ranking Africa:  Egypt
    Federation Ranking Africa:  Tunisia
    Federation Ranking America:  Canada
    Federation Ranking America:  Chile
    Federation Ranking Asia/Oceania:  Japan
    Federation Ranking Asia/Oceania:  Mongolia
    Federation Ranking Europe:  Germany
    Federation Ranking Europe:  Spain
Federation Ranking:  Netherlands,  Lithuania,  Azerbaijan,  Poland,  Czech Republic,  Italy,  Israel

Notable absence here being Australia. I’ll go with Germany, Spain and Japan.

I’ll go with my top 15, in no particular order:

    3x3 Basketball: Women’s Tournament
    Basketball: Men’s Tournament
Soccer: Men’s Tournament (depends on who plays)
Judo: Women’s -57kg (top 2 judoka in the OQR, unfortunately only one will qualify)
    Volleyball: Men’s Tournament
Volleyball: Women’s Tournament (only if Canada qualifies)
    Beach Volleyball: Men’s Tournament
    Beach Volleyball: Women’s Tournament
Athletics: Men’s Decathlon (Pierce LePage and Damian Warner both in contention for gold)
Athletics: Men’s Pole Vault (cause Mondo )
Athletics: Women’s High Jump (cause Olyslagers )
    Tennis: Men’s Singles
Swimming: Women’s 400IM (guaranteed gold for Summer McIntosh barring anything disastrous)
Boxing: Women’s 75kg (Tammara Thibeault is looking unstoppable right now)
Swimming: Women’s 400m Freestyle/Men’s 100m Butterfly (If Milak and Dressel can get back to form in time for Paris, men’s 100m butterfly would be tied on my list with women’s 400m freestyle and the highly anticipated battle between Katie Ledecky, Ariarne Titmus, and McIntosh)

Also men’s 200m butterfly for Illya Kharun.

IMO Wasick is more of a medal favourite in the women’s 50m freestyle than Chmielewski in the men’s 200m butterfly considering how consistent she’s been, but we’ll see what times he can produce at the US Open in a couple of days.
