  1. Sad news is that Daniele Hypólito has said she will keep training in hopes to join the 2020 Olympic team, as if we haven't had enough of her falls and failed routines at the Olympics...
  2. Russia got a gold medal with very suspicious scores once again. I'm not surprised. Italy and Belarus had mistakes, so Spain got silver and surprisingly Bulgaria earned the bronze medal. I'm soooo happy for Bulgaria! It's sad to see France and Italy without medals in Gymnastics, but Bulgaria on the podium is certainly heartwarming.
  3. Nah, I only sent greetings to them, but I think someone thought this was offensive enough to get it deleted. Not a big deal, though. Now, about football, it's funny because I remember that in 2012 not many people cared about the final match against Mexico. Now the football gold medal has become big news all over the place.
  4. The players are different, the scope of the tournament is also very different, so I believe there's not really much to compare other than the teams being Brazil and Germany. So, everybody is celebrating the gold medal for what it is, while the loss to Germany will remain what it is, as well. Very few people, if any, take the 7-1 seriously in Brazil. It has become a huge joke and everybody laughs at it. Here in Brazil we make fun of everything, including ourselves.
  5. That was really unexpected. I'm not complaining, though. It's nice to have a real chance to reach a total of 18 medals (our record is 17 in London). We've now tied the record with 17 medals (15 as of today, and finals in men's volleyball and men's football), but we might break the record tomorrow with a medal in canoeing. Fingers crossed.
  6. So far, so good in beach volleyball. I hope this becomes a 2-0 win. I can't suffer anymore watching Brazilian athletes failing under pressure.
  7. I'm getting nervous now that the competition is about to start. There are so many countries I'm rooting for... Pazhava from Georgia is by far my favorite gymnast in individual competition, but she is a dark horse for the podium. I can't see her winning a medal if both Russians hit their routines, and if Rizatdinova and Staniouta have a great day. Still, a top 5 finish would be amazing for her. In group competition, Belarus and Russia are a strong contenders for a gold medal. Russia is not as dominant as it once was, so it will be interesting to see if they can still win gold. Italy has the best routines of the group competition in my opinion, but it looks like Israel might surprise Italy and get a medal. Israel is the group I dislike the most in this event, but they seem to always get high scores, what baffles me. I wish Bulgaria could challenge for a medal too, but I don't see this happening right now.
  8. Thanks! Forza, Italia on the women's group competition in Rhythmic Gymnastics. I'm rooting for the gold medal!
  9. Ahhh! Another gold medal! What a great moment!!
  10. Yeees! A medal for Mexico! Felicitaciones! I was getting scared...
  11. I can't believe Mexico lost two bronze medal bouts.
  12. Finally a medal for India! Congratulations!
  13. What a jerk! I can't believe he now has an Olympic medal!
  14. I don't get it. What's going on? Did he run with his shirt off? Isn't there a penalty for this? And what is he doing with the mascot? So many questions... LOL.
  15. I can't believe it. Both Mexican athletes lost. What a poor Olympics for Brazil and Mexico.
  16. Now I'll have to root for the two Mexicans to reach the finals, so the Brazilians can go to the repechage.
  17. Man, I'm in shock now that Iran lost. Really weird.
  18. Joo scored 11-2 over Ovtcharov during set 4. What a disaster.
  19. I told you. I hope we never ever host a major event again. Ever.
  20. Yup. I don't think Brazil will handle the pressure now. I think it's going to be a tough battle between Canada and Germany.
  21. I think Germany is out. It's between Canada and Brazil now. EDIT: My bad. Germany can still get a medal.
  22. Nice to see a Qatari athlete who was born in Qatar getting a medal. I'm rooting for him.
  23. When you say "third world" you are just being extremely disrespectful and making use of a derrogatory term that is not supposed to be used since the 1980s to refer to a location you know nothing of, just because you think part of the population will necessarily represent the whole country. It was your choice to use this harmful term, so don't expect everyone to play dumb now. Disgusting.
  24. We haven't earned that many, to be honest. Some people I know are saying the Games have been a big, big failure.
  25. The point is I'm not trying to judge their reasons or anything. All I'm saying is that one way or another all of these countries benefit from naturalized athletes. I believe that this is not a big deal if they have been long-time citizens of the country. I see the difference. But the benefits are mostly unquestionable.
