It's all a matter of strategy. For example, bronze medalist on Vault, Giulia Steingruber, has one 6.2 D vault and another 5.8 D vault. Dipa Karmakar from India performs a 6.0 D vault and a 7.0 D vault (with a fall). Even if you count the fall, she would still have the same difficulty as Steingruber. In the end, execution matters the most, because those who had to count a fall didn't manage to earn a medal. I totally agree with you that a fall should be more deducted, though. I think two points off of the final score would be enough.

I totally agree. Dipa performed the best vaults of her life, but once again Paseka was awarded a medal she didn't deserve. She should not have earned a medal at the 2012 Olympics, and she should not be awarded a medal now at the 2016 Olympics. Sometimes I think the judges score the flags, not the actual Gymnastics. Paseka is really bad when it comes to execution, but the judges seem not to care just because she is Russian. Pathetic. But then again, Dipa also had pretty bad execution on her second vault. She performed it better than she has ever been able to, but it was still not good when you consider the deductions according to the Code of Points. Well, that's life. She tried hard and I admire her for doing what she does.

Yeah, that's true. And I'm officially supporting Honduras now. I want Brazil to earn an Olympic medal only for the sake of the overall medal count, but I definitely don't want Neymar to have the first ever Olympic gold in soccer for Brazil. So I'm rooting for Honduras to go to the final match and get their first ever Olympic medal of any kind, and Brazil to get bronze. Go, Honduras!

I would like to apologize for the disgusting behavior or the crowd. True fans would never act like that, and I'm really ashamed of such people. Mikulak and Shirai both deserve formal apologies. As a long time fan of Gymnastics, this is not how I pictured the event in my head. But those people do not represent all Brazilians, and on behalf of people who really love and admire this sport, and those who deeply respect the gymnasts, I would like to apologize. She loses 1 point on her vault, but since the scores are summed up and then averaged, she actually loses 0.5 out of the final score. She would be in a comfortable place for silver. Alternatively, the judges may see this as a touch rather than a fall. Either way, with a touch she loses 0.5 off of her score for one vault, 0.250 from the final score. She would still earn silver comfortably. I am really happy for her reaching 4th place at the Olympics, though. She knew it was going to be really hard to get a medal. I hope she gets a medal at the Worlds next year. Hong will probably retire, Biles will get some time off, Steingruber might retire as well, Paseka most certainly will retire too, so Dipa would be a shoe in for a medal.

I'm not trying to defend Neymar. I dislike him for a lot of reasons, and I will support Honduras if Brazil even wins this match (I don't think they will win). But Colombia has to step up their game. Every single match the Colombian players need to strike other players in order to keep playing. This is absurd. I know that we are supposed to see players getting in contact, but Colombia always bothers me by playing like this. Every. Single.Time.

The fight for the gold medal is gonna be GOOD! Hancharou, Dong and Gao will be very close. Trampoline is really making up for predictable and boring competitions in Artistic Gymnastics som far. I would never think I could get so excited with trampoline gymnastics.

Rafael Andrade also had a bad day. He had no chance in hell to qualify. Why did he get nervous? There was no pressure on him. No one was expecting anything. This is the problem with many Brazilian athletes: even when they have no chance to make it, they feel they are under pressure. With all due respect to him, what a wasted quota. Other athletes could have benefited a lot more from the Olympic experience.

Chances remotas: 1 no taekwondo, 1 na ginástica artística feminina, 1 no handebol masculino, 1 no basquete, mais uma no atletismo, mais uma na vela. Se tudo der absolutamente certo -- o que é quase impossível -- isso dá entre 25 e 27 medalhas, mais ou menos dentro do esperado. Mas acho que vamos chegar no máximo a 18 medalhas, e isso se ainda tivermos sorte. Pode ser que o número de ouros seja maior do que em Londres, mas ainda assim o total de medalhas seria extremamente decepcionante. Mas vamos ver...
