  1. Basketball, men's Tournament. Since there's no option to vote for the team that won a demonstration event between European YMCA teams in 1924 I think I might have for vote for Basketball, women's Tournament for Gold. Oh say can you see, by the dawn's early light... Basketball, women's Tournament for Bronze. Tempted for vote for the USA again. But this time Handball, men's Tournament. Vive la Waterpolo, men's tournament. 1956
  2. Equestrian, team Dressage Germany's 400 successive gold medals win this contest Equestrian, team Eventing. Australia had a great run at the end of the last century but they in 96 and 2000 they put their best combinations in the team competition when it was held separately from the individual when other countries split the effort over both events. Again I may be biased but in 1968 had three of the top five finishers in terrible conditions (one of the Irish riders had to be saved from drowning) so they get my vote Equestrian, team Jumping. Here it's between 2021 Sweden and of the 96 and 2000 Games. Here the brilliance of the Atlanta Games from Germany wins my vote Fencing, men's team Epee. Vive la Athletics, men's 4x100m Relay. I also loved 2004 and the American lead runner (Crawford?) trying to look like a gangsta at the start and then looking silly when they lost. I changed my a lot about this, swapping between and but eventually decided that the 1984 US team tipped the balance in favour of America
  3. Sportsperson of the year is world athletics 1500m champion Jake Wightman
  4. I was thinking it might be a good idea sometime to predict the results for every year a full strength Olympics should have taken place but was cancelled or boycotted by some nations. Although I realize that would take a lot of research to complete.
  5. If you haven't heard the story yet. Crazy Nazis get arrested after plotting to overthrow the German government https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-63885028
  6. For some strange reason, doesn't give any awards until March 2023. Maybe time runs more slowly on the island?
  7. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald's_1984_Olympics_promotion
  8. I think 4 of the Americans deserved golds in 1984 and 5 didn't. being the country that lost out badly because of the home town judging. I think the and fighters would have been so good that the judges could not possibly vote against them. (I hope)
  9. In Equestrian might have got a silver or bronze in team dressage but otherwise they'd be no changes to the medals
  10. A little more news from the IOC. Apparently boxing may stay in the Games but only if a new world federation replaces the IBA
  11. From today's press conference by the IOC. "At present we would not be able to recommend boxing to be added to the programme of the 2028 Games"
  12. Spain are basically a team of crabs playing football today Sideways. Sideways always sideways...
  13. In the USA basketball's Stephen Curry has won Sports Illustrated magazine's Sportsperson of the Year award
  14. It's not long along you complained have 4 teams in the World Cup but the truth is it weakened the UK chances of winning a major championship. Maybe 4 British teams not one better team means a stronger chance for to do well?
  15. All would have depended on who England would have replaced their coach when it became a Great Britain team. Maybe Alex Ferguson?
  16. In the 1986 quarter-final Maradona would not have scored a goal if Southall and Ratcliffe had been playing...
  17. 1970 - Best and Law were both European players of the year in the years preceding that. 1986 - Lineker was not at his peak and probably would have been only a substitite and Southall and Ratcliffe were infinitely superior to their English counterparts. 2018 - OK, Bale was better but I admit maybe not enough to make a difference
  18. 1970 England plus George Best and Denis Law 1986 England plus Neville Southall, Kevin Ratcliffe and Ian Rush 2018 England plus Bale ???
  19. I'm taking half the glory because his mother was from :-)
  20. Interesting thought that have won only 1 World Cup but if had played as they might have won 3-4 titles...
