  1. Different countries do different things. The old Communist countries usually take FISU very seriously & send strong teams. Here in we have one recognised Sports University, and others which have specific programmes which produce lots of international athletes, like obviously Oxford & Cambridge in Rowing or Stirling in Swimming. Otherwise our young Olympic-track athletes are kept on the circuit where they are earning international points for FIS, ISU etc. Probably the only athletes here who really have serious ambitions for the future will be the two Curling teams, because there aren't that many serious international Curling competitions out there. But it's still fun, because all sport is good when it is between athletes on the same level. Doesn't have to involve Messi & Benzema to be exciting.
  2. I guess all the decent players of that age are on pro contracts & thus ineligible. Even in only a few University teams in any sport are heading to international kevel.
  3. Off we go with a local derby -, v . In the Coverage is basic - single Camera, no Comms.
  4. Lucky it was a not-very-exciting day!
  5. We have pictures of….a fence! Needs varnish, I’d say.
  6. Pictures down again.
  7. Giacomel has beaten JTB on ski speed….no hang on, JTB missed two.
  8. We’re back…. …..but with a very unimportant camera.
  9. Think that’s fair. There’s never any snow & the crowds are well down on other venues.
  10. Try this - all times are local of course. https://www.lakeplacid2023.com/events/month/
  11. And in fact, this story comes around frequently. https://mickhartley.typepad.com/blog/2023/01/the-manure-struggle-campaign.html#comments
  12. I was looking at it again for a post on another site. Worked it out!. The standard coverage will be on up to 4 simultaneous FISU.TV channels - broadcasting schedule not announced yet, but starting with the official opening on Friday morning. The ice hockey prelims (or some of them) will be on special transmissions on Wednesday & Thursday. I guess just using a limited number of fixed cameras in the arenas.
  13. He had dropped his magazine in a fall and had to get spares from a range assistant. I thought he'd put it in, but I presume he either didn't, or had taken it out again. Otherwise the range officers would surely have stopped him.
  14. Yeah, the app has been around for a while, but if you already have it you’ll want to reinstall, probably.
  15. Have just gotten myself sorted out with the FISU app. Looks very good. You have to register with e-mail/password, not too cumbersome, but after that it looks excellent at first glance Full coverage of everything, including group stages of hockey & curling which aren’t on Discovery. App is on Ipad, Android, Amazon & Roku, and supports ChromeCast & Airplay, so just about perfect. No guarantee that it’ll all work when the action starts, though. Or what the geo-blocking rules will be. First test with the hockey on Wednesday evening.
  16. History made in Speed Skating, our first ever women’s international medal for Ellia Smeding. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/winter-sports/64204191
  17. Great day for !
  18. Fill0n-Maillet adjusted his sights the wrong way - penalty loop. Going to get DQFed for serious safety violation. If he doesn’t shoot himself first.
  19. Nervous days for fans as Lampić is on the final leg.
  20. Klaebo obviously running some kind of betting scam has a big recovery at the end, only loses 45 secs.
  21. Steven Roche 1987. Klaebo is struggling now.
  22. Per the British Comms, Karlsson had been stretchered downhill with oxygen, but was conscious & talking before the men’s race started.
  23. Clear shoot for Baserga! Sadly for 2 loops for Irwin.
  24. Going well in the Single Mixed - Hartweg & Baserga. And as soon as I type it…. Samuelsson three penalty loops!
