She competed earlier this month on the road - I think she did the Boston mile a couple of weeks ago and did the 5k event at the Paris marathon at the start of April but her last track race was probably in July last year. -

Selection of athletes in action over the course of this weekend including: 27th Apr: Shanghai Diamond League : Megan Keith secured the OQS in the 10,000m at the first time of asking. In Shanghai, she goes over the 5000m. Her PB in the event is just under 14:57 from last year so she would need to find 5 seconds to dip under the standard. Ethan Hussey will compete in the 800m and Daryll Neita gets her outdoor season underway in the 200m. 27th-28th: 37th Multistars : Jade O'Dowda is scheduled to compete in the Heptathlon. The OQS is 6480 - 225 points more than her current PB but it's not out of reach. If she can get under 13.5 for the 100m hurdles and get over 1.86 in the high jump, she'll set herself up with a great chance of getting the standard despite a relatively weak shot put. If she does fall short of the OQS, her secondary target will be the UK Athletics standard of 6260 - that's just 5 points more than her current PB. 27-Apr: Texas Invitational : Dina Asher-Smith will line up in both the 100m and 200m. Whilst she has put in a couple of solid relay legs so far this season, her opening outing in the 200m earlier this month was probably not quite what she wanted it to be. Yusuf Bizimana will be going in the 800m 27-Apr: Desert Heat Classic : David King opens his outdoor season in the 110m Hurdles, whilst Brodie Young is in the 400m 27-Apr: Drake Relays : Tade Ojora lines up in the 110m hurdles. He currently heads up the UK list for 2024 with his 13.48 but needs to find another 0.2 seconds to hit the OQS. Cindy Sember already has the OQS and has been in great form so far this year and will look to continue that in the 100m hurdles. Lizzie Bird makes her 2024 track debut in the 3000m Steeplechase 27-Apr: Penn Relays : Kyle Langford competes in the 800m -

Can I applaud you for not pointing out the obvious flaw in the previous poster's attempt to spread yet more misery and misinformation to the group. The "vertical jumps" that they seem to think will be bereft of British participation are actually in pretty rude health given that's the pole vault and high jump. -

Rowing WR European Olympic Qualification Regatta 2024
Rafa Maciel replied to Totallympics's topic in Rowing
Sorry - I misunderstood what you were asking. The wording of the qualification process has changed since Tokyo. For Tokyo, the general rule for qualifying via continental qualifier was an NOC could only qualify 1 boat with the exception of NOCs who had not qualified any boats at the previous world champs who could qualify 2 boats if they both won their events: For Paris, the situation is different - NOCs who did not qualify any boats at last year's world champs could qualify 2 boats at the continental qualifier and it did not matter where they finished so for example, Iran qualified in both the women's single sculls and women's lightweight double sculls at the Asian qualifier by finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively. For NOCs that qualified 1 boat at the World Champs, then the only way they can qualify 2 further boats at the continental qualifier is by having both of the boats finishing 1st. -

This qualifier is limited to nations who had only qualified 1 boat at the World Champs last year so GB (and most of the main European nations) aren't eligible to compete and will look to get further boats qualified at the last chance regatta next month. -

Track Cycling Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024
Rafa Maciel replied to Totallympics's topic in Cycling - Track
Interesting that they are showing as 1st reserve for men's sprint - evidently the supplementary entry they got through qualifying in the keirin does not prevent them from qualifying a second rider. -
Assuming it's the same structure as last year's worlds, then the top 2 sailors at the end of the opening series of 20 races will go directly through to the final. Sailors ranked 3-10 progress to the semi-finals with the top ranked sailor in each semi-final starting with 2 wins, the 2nd ranked sailor starting with 1 win. The other 2 sailors start from 0. The first sailor to get to 3 wins advances to the final so it is unlikely that they would need all 8 races. In the final, the same structure applies - the sailor who topped the opening series starts the final with 2 wins, the sailor who finished 2nd has 1 win and the qualifiers from the semi-final start with 0. The first to 3 takes gold.

Where there are nations with 4 riders listed, some of the riders' ranking points are excluded from the total points, so it is possible that the ranking is based on the top 3 riders from each qualifying event rather than the ranking points from the top 3 riders across the whole qualifying period. -

Men's 110m Hurdles There's positive signs that we could be heading towards a full team for the sprint hurdles. Tade Ojora heads the rankings with his 13.48 from the Mt Sacs Relay this weekend and it is also looking like Andy Pozzi has put his injury issues behind him as he has already completed about half a dozen races this season with his best time being 13.49. Women's 100m Hurdles Cindy Sember is getting close to her best times again and has wrapped up the Olympic qualifying standard early with a run of 12.57 in Florida last weekend. Isabel Wakefield has also been making great progress this year with her 13.15 getting close to the European Championship qualification standard. -

Women's 400m Amber Anning has had a great start to the season, and it is surely only a matter of time before she goes sub-50 seconds. Victoria Ohuruogu made a strong start to the season and is well placed to get the Olympic qualifying standard over the next few weeks. Men's 400m Last year, Matt Hudson Smith DNF'd in 2 of his first 3 400m races. This year, he was DNF in his first race before clocking 45.00 in Louisiana this weekend. Given his individual medal from last year's World Champs, in theory that should be sufficient to secure his qualification to the Olympic team. -

Mountain bike qualification took an interesting turn in Brazil this weekend. Charlie Aldridge was well placed for most of the race but faded towards the end and ultimately finished in 13th. Cameron Orr had a decent run and finished in 20th. Collectively they will pick up around 150 points. Unfortunately Denmark's Simon Andreassen took 1st place and will pick up 250 points. Whilst I think GB will still be in 8th place when the next ranking list comes out, Denmark will have made significant progress in closing the gap. -

Women's 200m Dina Asher Smith finished 3rd in the 200m at the Mt Sacs Relays this weekend with a 22.80 and tops the British outdoor rankings for 2024. Whilst it may be disappointing to finish behind Alfred and Adeleke, it was nevertheless a solid start to the season. Given she has started her season a month earlier than 2023, it will be interesting to see how her results next month compare to previous years. Amber Anning's is the form athlete at the moment with her indoor mark of 22.60 topping the ranking list for Britain. She's been a bit unlucky so far this season with the wind gauge - her 22.47 run in Fayetteville was with a +7.4m/s. Men's 200m As with the 100m, not all of the big names have joined the fray yet this season and whilst we haven't seen any new Olympic qualifying standards, there have been new PBs for Jona Efoloko and Michael Ohioze. -

April State of Play Women's 100m With April coming to an end, we've now seen the vast majority of GB sprinters start their outdoor season and there has been plenty of positives. In the absence of Asher-Smith and Nieta, Imani Lansiquot leads the British rankings with her 11.02 in Florida this weekend. Amy Hunt's strong indoor form seems to have carried over into the outdoor season as she records a new PB 11.12 in Florida. Men's 100m In contrast to the women, we haven't seen the main GB contenders take to the outdoor track. Jeremiah Azu has come closest to getting the Olympic qualifying standard when he clocked 10.00 at the Kip Keino Classic. Unfortunately, the wind was +2.2m/s. Harry Aikines-Aryeetey tops the times so far this year with a 10.17 and behind him, there have been PBs for John Otugade, Jona Efoloko and Ade Adewale. -

Great run at London Marathon for Emilie Caress who becomes the 2nd fastest Brit ever with a 2:06.46 and will undoubtedly confirm his place in GB squad for Paris at tomorrow's selectors meeting (still don't know why he wasn't selected at the first meeting). Joining him on the squad should be Mahamed Mahamed after he clocked 2:07.05. Rose Harvey likely favourite to get the nod for the final spot on the women's squad. -
