  3. So the whole family seemingly was given a passport today (some Albanian politician is announcing the girl as a chance for Albania to get an Olympic champion) and Ceccarelli is the new boss of the Albanian alpine skiing team - money, a private team for her girl with her family running the whole show and to make her compete among seniors immediately are the reasons, I don't see why the Italian federation, which is not exactly the worst of the world in term of current results, should let a 15yo (even a possible future champion) and her megalomaniac family dictate the conditions to compete as Italian.

  4. It looks that 15 years young Lara Colturi (Super-G Olympic Champion Daniela Ceccarelli's daughter), considered the most talented girl in Italy (at least) among the youth classes in SG and above all, GS, will represent Albania from next season... https://www.oasport.it/2022/05/sci-alpino-lara-colturi-sceglie-di-gareggiare-per-lalbania-litalia-perde-un-talento-straordinario/?refresh_ce I wonder how Italy can afford to lose their upcoming alpine skiing star even before she starts to compete at the highest level? Just ahead of the Home Olympics? Going to Albania??? (I mean, I could understand if she goes to Austria, Switzerland or another skiing powerhouse in search of a better and more competitive team, but c'mon, man! Albania???!!!) I knew there's something wrong in our Wintersports Federation, but that's really scary (and humiliating)...

  6. There really isn't any strong argument to dropping shooting imo. Only thing I have read is venue requirements being an issue (but both Australia and England have hosted the games this century with the sport...). Rhythmic is easily accompanied in the same venue as artistic....but I never understood its inclusion either as the sport has almost no tradition in the Commonwealth.

  7. Extremely proud of our boys. we gave some fear to the big favorite. Anyway, I am not worried about our future at all. Slovakia is not dead, Slovak hockey will shine in a couple of years. when the 04-06 generations will be around 22-23 years old we will be damn good. Congrats . Go for that home gold

  9. Controversy! Traditionally athletes with connections to have been able to compete for Northern Ireland in the Comms, but now bureaucrats have found out this is happening & put a stop to it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/gymnastics/61596695

  10. Oh please, bring Madona into the circuit, we've held over 10 national championships and other events there since we didn't have our own functional course up until this last season. Though home advantage is unlikely to help our young "talent"

  11. Yeah, the gripe about shooting or weightlifting is a bit unfounded. The team and the snatch/C&J events were only there to inflate medals. I'd have the same feeling if they removed the individual apparatuses in rhythmic gymnastics. When I look at whether a sport/event should be part of the Commonwealth Games, I ask myself, "are there at least 8 competitive nations?" Admittedly, that helps Great Britain more since they are split at the games. England and Scotland are major players and Wales and Northern Ireland can add depth. Throw in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa who tend to have similar interests and it's not too difficult to find a couple of other nations to make the event competitive. Meanwhile for India (or other nations), if they don't have the support of the previously mentioned nations it will be hard to find enough nations to make the event viable.

  12. Calendar for 2022/23 season is out. They rejected all the new ideas after all, parallels are almost gone and no combined of any sort. Big change is the addition of North American rounds after the World Championships for men as women will race in Kvitfjell instead. 13. commonwealth Games is becoming such a farce what is the purpose of any multigame event ...... I believe it is to foster sports , participation and interest in all the countries which form the nations which are part of the nations involved .... There are 70 odd participants to the games ( but look closely and you will find there are only53 countries in the commonwealth so all the rest are overseas territories or Ok adding isle of man and jersey as seperate team ) so lets look at the 53 countries an africa group which includes kenya , uganda , whose primary interest would be athletics a carribean group like jamaica, bahamas etc whose primary interest would be athletics so possibly 15 -20 odd countries who would have a wider interest in a multigames program which would be divided into the core dominion countries - UK , Australia , canada and NZ Large african countries - Nigeria , SA South asian cluster - India, Pakistan , bangladesh srilanka SEA cluster - singapore , malaysia now let us look at the sports they have increased medals in or cut in the last 20 years ( last 5 games ) They have cut shooting 40 to 0 where india dominated , but also the sole medal winner for bangladesh They have cut wrestling from 14 to 0 where it was a sport where india dominated and nigeria did well and so did pakistan ( this took a lot of effort as they had to change the whole framework as they have reduced the weightlifting medals from 45 to 15 a sport where india dominates but the smaller oceanic countries like soma, fiji , etc did well in, also pakistan and srilanka get a majority of their medals . I am seeing this as the next target as this is a sport the dominion do badly at and other countries somoa , india and nigeria do well at so cut a 100 medals here what sports have they increased or added aquatics gone up from 48 to an incredible 66 ...... this event is almost wholly dominated by the dominion 4 and SA cycling gone up from 15 to 26 ...... the event is almost wholely dominated by the dominion 4 lawn bowls gone up from 6 to 11 again a sport dominated by the dominion 4 gymnastics gone up from 15 to 20 odd adding rhythmic gymnastics again a sport dominated by the dominion 4 + cyprus judo has been added by UK and dropped by Aus every time a desperate ping pong in sport of 14 medals again dominated by UK \ Para atheletics around 10-12 events carefully selected to reflect the dominion 4 only 11 /12 medals only by them triatholon and squash with 10 or so medals have been added which are events where all the gold medals are won by the dominion 4 so added a 80 odd medals here so if you add the athletics program of 60 or so , , almost 200 medals out of 270 or so ( 75% comes in just 6 sports .with the new changes l ) ...... 5 out of these 6 sports almost exclusively the dominion of the 5 dominion countries .........and you cut a 100 medals in sports like weightlifting , wrestling and shooting where non dominion countries did well in and completely dropped shooting and wrestling pretty much mainstay programs if india protests it is a fair protest ....... this is turning into a dominion games.... of interest of only the 4 dominion countries and possibly SA ........ so go ahead you are killing interest in the CWG in all countries except the 4 dominion countries and SA ............ anyway commonwealth para games , commonwealth youth games , cCWG winter games are already killed .......very soon the main CWG will die or you convert them into a quadrilateral games and drop the multigames tag

    Karate Discussion Thread

2022 Karate European Championships ( Gaziantep) May, 25th through May, 29th Day #1 was maybe one of the most surprising session of Karate I saw in the last few years... Nothing new happened in Kata, as expected, but, man! no one of the Kumite events went according to plan/expectation... For Italy, it was basically a disaster, with no gold medal match reached by our guys (even the great Luigi Busà, at his first competition after the Olympic title, couldn't do better than earning a miserable -for his standard- bronze medal match, losing to the most improbable, unknown Englishman Brian Wilkins in the semifinal match)... we all expected him and the eternal Rafael Aghayev to make us the gift of another chapter of their neverending rivalry (it would have been the highlight of the Championship, of course), but both of them couldn't reach the expected showdown... on the other hand, Slovakia @hckošice Croatia @dcro @prso1000 @ all Croatian friends and Hungary @Vektor @ all Hungarian friends seem to have earned the status of powehouses in this sport together with usual suspect and host Nation, Turkey (it's just for this tournament, don't start dreaming too much, guys! ), reaching 2 gold medal matches each in Kumite events... here's a quick recap of the already determined Gold Medal matches (Saturday, May 28th @ 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. CET): Women's Individual Kata: Sandra Sanchez Jaime vs Dilara Bozan Men's Individual Kata: Alì Sofuoglu vs Damian Hugo Quintero Capdevila Women's Individual Kumite, -61kg: Ingrida Suchankova vs Anna Miggou Women's Individual Kumite, -68kg: Miroslava Kopunova vs Eda Eltemur Women's Individual Kumite, +68kg: Ivana Perovic vs Aicha Zakia Boussebaa Men's Individual Kumite, -75kg: Erman Eltemur vs Brandon Brian Wilkins Men's Individual Kumite, -84kg: Enes Garibovic vs Daniel Gyorgy Men's Individual Kumite, +84kg: Andjelo Kvesic vs Luca Costa

  18. Ah yes, the youthful and hip sport of golf. I think the IOC needs to concede to either cut sports/events or increase the total number of athletes to around 12,000. That's how many athletes we needed once they made the (correct) decision to expand women's sports.

  24. The bid failed. The Hungarian government decided to not support the hosting of the event due to the war and the economic crisis. Orbán has been very supportive of sport events in Hungary, so this is the first time in the last 12 years that he stopped a bid. Probably a sign of how deeply the Hungarian economy is fucked.
