I hate Israel politically but that was a petty, petty move from Lebanon. Goes totally against the Olympic Movement. These athletes are not the ones opressing Palestine. Take aim at the politicians, sure, but take athletes as athletes and make their sporting performance the only think that matters.

He was a great athlete, but if you're gonna choose someone to do this honor, I think it's better to pick someone who was an Olympian. Plenty of great people to choose from.

Nope, definitely not. Tactics are incredibly important in a road race, it's considered a semi-team sport for a reason. The only problem is in the Olympics the teams are often too small to have decent tactics and riders don't always like working together because they're not teammates in their commercial/day-to-day teams.
