    1. With the Olympics coming around haven't checked any results on World Athletics and only found out through the "Athletics Discussion Thread", but Sarah Mitton opened up her season a few days ago at the Knights of Columbus Games with a 20.22m effort in women's shot put!
    2. Whilst I don't disagree with the sentiment - that GB don't always accept reallocated quotas - I don't believe that is down to the BOA. They don't select the team. They simply confirm the athletes who are nominated by the national federations. Likewise, I wouldn't say the BOA only want the medal headlines but there is no getting away from the fact that UK Sport - the organisation that controls the funding for elite sport - tends to measure success in terms of a return on investment

    4. Just thinking about this over the last few days. This is probably our best winter Olympics roster I've seen in a while. I think we can win at least 13-14 gold medals, maybe even more if a few breaks go our way. With some big Norwegian retirements post-Beijing, I think USA has a big opportunity to win the gold medal tally this year. Here's kind of a rough sport by sport breakdown of our gold medal chances. Obviously these are just predictions. Let me know if I'm crazy or if we really have a chance to top the gold medal tally. Alpine Skiing: 1-2 Gold medals (Vonn & Shiffrin) Biathlon: 0 Bobsled: 1 (Have a chance in both women's events, so I'll say 1) Cross Country: 1 (Diggins should hopefully get 1) Curling: 0 Figure Skating: 3-4 (Malinin, Chock/Bates, Team, chance at women's as well) Freestyle Skiing: 4-5 (Men's halfpipe, women's aerials, women's moguls, mixed team aerials, maybe even dual moguls) Ice Hockey: 1-2 Luge: 0 Nordic Combined: 0 Short Track: 0 Skeleton: Ski Jumping: Ski Mountaineering: 0 Snowboard: 1-2 (Chloe Kim, maybe men's big air, men's slope?) Speed Skating: 5-6 (Stolz sweep, men's pursuit, maybe a women's event?) Even if things go wrong, they will at least win 13 gold medals. Best case scenario, they could reach 17 or 18. Thoughts?
    5. I imagine they'll both be at the main ceremony... they moved things around and men's moguls doesn't start until Thursday and ski cross is way into week two. I'd think they'll just arrive and stay in Milan, or hop the train for that day
    6. Big name would be Chloe Kim. She, in my sphere, is the biggest star in the team. She has a similar appeal as Coco Gauff in 2024. Malinin would fill that role for the mens side. Other name would be Jaelin Kauf who could be a the first time Dual Mogul's Olympic champion and is one the best US mogul skiers of all time, although she would make a better closing ceremony choice if she does win. Stolz is my guess for men's closing ceremony bearer. I follow this stuff and didn't know his name until today. If he goes and wins a few golds he'll become a star overnight.
