What medal in Tokyo for someone NOT from your country would be the most fun for you?

Canada is in this event too but stories like these make me more interested.

Not sure why I thought Canada didn't make it

Don’t know if fun is the word, but some athletes i like and want them to do well that I can remember now (among others):

Athletics:

:USA Allyson Felix (if qualified)

:BUL Ivet Lalova

:SWE Angelica Bengtsson

:USA Sam Kendricks

:RUS Maria Lasitskene

:UKR Yulia Levchenko

:UKR Yaroslava Mahuchikh

:LTU Airine Palsyte (if qualified)

:QAT Mutaz Eza Barshim

Canoeing:

:BRA Isaquias Queiroz dos Santos

Fencing:

:ROU Ana Maria Popescu

Gymnastics:

:ROU Larisa Iordache

Judo:

:UKR Daria Bilodid

Swimming:

:USA Katie Ledecky

:USA Nathan Adrian (if qualified)

:RUS Kliment Kolesnikov

:RUS Yulia Efimova

:ITA Simona Quadarella

:SWE Sarah Sjostrom

Tennis:

:ROU Simona Halep

:POL Iga Swiatek

:RUS Daria Kasatkina

:SUI Roger Federer

:SRB Novak Djokovic

:RUS Daniil Medvedev

If i had to choose only a few from this list, I'd say Felix and Federer winning golds, Efimova, Halep and Iordache winning a medal and Ledecky sweeping the 200-1500.

Easy.

1st :BUL Mirela Demireva

2nd :SUI Belinda Bencic,

3rd, as mentioned :HUN W Water Polo

and obviously

Finally :ECU medal (looking very promising this time) :bounce:

and :CZE because we are one, whatever the maps show

Looked at Slovakian squad on wiki, sadly you guys have lesser medal chances than even Ecuador

That is nothing new buddy, we knew it  I told you last time, any medal would be fantastic, lets hope for at least one

but great for :ECU:bounce:

Basically everyone who wins, who was not expected to win at all. Surprises :cheer:

Big names and people who already have a big list of major wins (especially if it already includes Olympic golds and such) generally don't do much for me, especially if it's athletes who were basically expected to win. Sports is emotion and emotion is often the biggest and best when someone surprises.

.

Speaking of our women's water polo curse, there's another curse in team sports: Sweden in men's handball with 4 silver medals. So I hope that they will finally win that gold if they will be in the final again.

Just from the top of my head:

:JAM winning the 100/200 sprint

- someone else than :USA winning one of the basketball tournaments

:SLO and :CRO competitors in general of course not at the expense of :HUN :D

there are a lot of athletes I like and support despite not being from my Country...

it's too hard to select a few, but this year there's 1 woman I'd really love to see on the Olympic podium: :JPN swimmer Rikako Ikee (many people who know her story could also imagine why)

Oh that would be awesome

If I had the power, I'd trade any medal in swimming for a medal for Ikee!

    • I still shocks, that a country of 4-5 million inhabitants? can be a powerhouse in almost every winter sport + handball, football (most recently with Haaland) and athletics: Ingebrigtsen, Warholm, etc. With such a small population, they can't be missing out on any major talent, surely? This must be the best training system in the world...
    • FIFA announced the stadium and time for each match   for  Iran, it will be 2 matches in LA (and not just 1) and 1 in Seattle and luckily we avoided playing in Canada. absolutely nothing against the country, but there are just too many douchebag Iranian groups in Vancouver trying to mix everything with their stupid politics. it's better to stay away from them.   that can happen in US too but less likely. playing in LA is more like playing at home, at least I hope so. 2022 Qatar was a disaster from our point of view, hopefully this one remains only about football.

    • I don't think he'll mind too much
    • But his time isn`t valid at track record.
    • Vladimir Semirunniy dropped a 12:28 in the 10000m B division, which qualifies him for the Olympics as the fastest time this season (with the big asterisk that it was done in a quad start). Must be a real relief for the Polish team given he isn't looking likely to qualify for the 10000m (or the 5000m) by ranking.   Really problematic that they rank pair start and quad start times together, but whatever.   Also, the Wikipedia page for qualification is updated through the second day.
