yeah but -67 has 11 athletes with that Refugee thing invitation, is that place taken out from M Kata ? I know M Kata has already 9 more quotas than it deserve :p but still the counts looks correct for me

Expand

it's written in the article...there will be 82 athletes (21 kata, 61 kumite specialists) in Tokyo...

the Refugees are extra quota...

and men's Kata will feature for sure 1 of the 4 tripartite commission invitational places, so in the end threre will be 10 athletes in that discipline as well...

:MKD May get a tripartite. Then maybe Bimala Tamang, Asian Games bronze medallist :NEP

Even :MNE could get 1 again can't say.   Not sure about the 4th quota

Expand

the only 110% sure place among the tripartite invitations is :KUW in men's kata (makin'it 10 players in that class)...

then, there should be 1 more free place in the women's -61kg class, otherwise there would be a 9-woman tournament, but here there are no athletes eligible according to the top 50 of the OQR/WR rule...

therefore I think they won't use that rule (they will make it easier for sure, like to be in the top 75/100 just to find someone to match the criteria)...

for the last 2 spots...good luck!

they made it a mess...

and surely they didn't apply the rules they wrote in their papers in these years (it's not that we all got fooled during the OQP when we used to compile the list of continental quota places competition after competition...they surely changed criteria -or at least, the interpretation- without making it public)...

@MHSNDo you think the WKF made a mistake?

I think they know what they are doing. the rules say

  Quote

the highest ranked athlete not yet qualified from the Olympic Standing on 24 May 2021 from that specific continent, will obtain the quota place

Expand

that says the "Olympic Standing" not the weight separate standing. they made this list based on separate rankings for each weight. yes if we consider +68kg ranking :KAZ Berultseva is the best ranked Asian but she is 9th in the overall ranking of +61kg.

I would protest this decision. to me this is cheating but nothing is going to change. this list is final.

Actually I always have this confusion the standing before or after the combination. I hate those documents with unclear explanations.

so 4 wild cards are available

2 in men's Kata where only :KUW is eligible.

if they really award those quotas to the next best NOC "not represented" :KUW is first, :INA is next, (and :PAN is next in case )

1 is available in women's Kata where only :MNE is eigible. if she doesn't get it for any reason. the best NOC "not represented" yet is :DOM

1 is available in women's 61kg, nobody is eligible per WKF's rules. the first NOC "not represented" is :ECU

    • Draws are now out: https://ausopen.com/draws   As usual, some intriguing first round matchups.   ‪Osaka/Garcia and Gauff/Kenin are the main ones that stand out on the women’s side, while for the men it’s Hurkacz/Griekspoor, Dimitrov/Fognini and Monfils/Mpetshi Perricard, but there’s so many quality matchups that it’s tough to only pick a couple. I’m interested to see who Fonseca draws as a Q, that’ll be a matchup players want to avoid.
