Was China going to host every single OQT?! Every day i see a different sport saying they've moved a tournament from China to somewhere else.

China is a great place for the international sports fan, unfortunately that’s about where the compliments have to stop.

Has Japan chosen the four categories in which use the host country quotas?

Not yet.

Looking at the rankings they are most likely to go with men's -58kg, men's -80kg, women's -49kg and women's -57kg.

Only the men's -68kg has an athlete with a ranking, the other three weight classes do not.

I see something on Wikipedia, but I don't know the source.

Wikipedia is correct

They had a qualifier back on Feb 9th.

Here's the media release (in Japanese)

according to the linked media release, the final selection for the Japanese Olympic squad was held on february, 9th and the qualified fighters are:

Sergio Suzuki Moron (men's -58kg)
Ricardo Saburo Suzuki Moron (men's -68kg)
Miyu Yamada (women's -49kg)
Mayu Hamada (women's -57kg, 2015 World Champion)

to be noticed...the 2 men are siblings with strong Bolivian heritage (Ricardo Saburo is even still listed as Bolivian by Taekwondodata)...

pity that they choose to represent Japan...

they could have been by far the best chance for Bolivia to qualify in an individual discipline...

Although to be fair, competing for Bolivia instead of Japan might also have cost them a lot in terms of infrastructure and training options.

sure, but it would have been a nice story...2 sibling from Bolivia qualifying for the Olympics...

however, now it's a done deal...they are in for Japan and...good luck to them...

Do we yet know which athlete missed out on the Olympics by missing the weight in the 49kg?

    • I think it's already slowly happening. These things happen on their own, not because someone decides to.
    • The think about you writing about is rarer but that doesn't mean that you can belittle, for example, Obama, who won twice in a row. What was he supposed to do at that time? Deliberately lose in 2012 so he could run in 2016? He couldn't have run more than twice. In Trump's case, it's more the downfall of the USA itself: first of all, the lack of credible and capable leaders at a younger age. After all, what happened in 2020 in elections was a parody: two old guys (one with dementia, the other clown with numerous court judgments). Then you wonder why Putin and the leader from China aren't afraid of the USA, since they have such incompetent people as opponents. It hurts me a lot because in the 90s I admired the USA and Clinton was a role model od modern leader in Europe and now? Looking at their elections and their leaders I just smile bitterly.
