1st day summary, they are sorted by their time.

LM2X

Final A: :JPN:IND:HKG:INA:UZB:KAZ

Final B: :KOR:PHI:THA

LW2X

Final A: :JPN:IRI:VIE:INA:UZB:KOR

Final B: :HKG:PHI:THA:TPE:IND

M1X

SF A/B: :JPN:UZB:IRI:IND:INA:HKG:KAZ:IRQ:VIE:PHI:THA:QAT

13th place: :KUW

W1X

SF A/B: :JPN:IRI:VIE:TPE:KAZ:HKG:QAT:KOR:INA:UZB:IND:SGP

Final C: :THA:KUW

--------------------

Japan had the best time in all 4 events. even though we can't compare times from different heats. Iran probably has its best team here but unfortunately the rules will limit Iran to have just 1 boat qualify. I don't think two of them can win the gold here. W1X maybe but the rest looks unlikely.

just for fun. it that was the final ranking, I assume Japan would select both LW2X and assumed Iran and Vietnam will pick LW2X

LM2X: :JPN:IND:HKG

LW2X: :JPN:IRI:VIE

M1X: :UZB:INA:IRQ:PHI:THA

W1X: :TPE:KAZ:QAT:KOR:SGP

So we can expect a messy juggling as countries like japan have to drop a couple of teams , even India may have qualifiers in two events and need to drop one ...... But the rules simplify the choices as only the highest ranked boat qualifies .....

strength does not come from physical capacity but from an indomitable will. - Gandhi

first session of the day:

M1X

Final A: :JPN:UZB:IRI:IND:KAZ:VIE

Final B: :INA:HKG:IRQ:PHI:THA:QAT

13th place: :KUW

W1X

Final A: :JPN:IRI:TPE:VIE:KAZ:KOR

Final B: :QAT:IND:SGP:HKG:INA:UZB

13th/14th places in order: :THA:KUW

=================

the only country with one boat in Final A is TPE. which means TPE is already qualified in W1X.

we have 16 NOCs left (had 17 but the guy from KSA didn't continue after the heats) and 16 boats will qualify for the Olympics. which means if no country wins 2 golds or more, all 16 NOCs may qualify a boat. (terrible rule though) but that's unlikely because of Japan.

Depending on the rankings we could have some empty quotas which will have to be reallocated (like the LW2x at the Pan American qualifier)

it was hard to understand the ranking from that terrible live stream

but Japan won all 4 gold medals here.

Iran finished 3rd in LW2X and 2nd in M1X and W1X.

that was all for nothing. they could still win that lone quota even if we had a boat in Final B!

so I guess it's up to our federation to pick Bahman Nasiri or Nazanin Malaei. they would pick LW2X to have more athletes in the Games but I think they can't.

it depends on Japan and Iran

I think only these boats are 100% qualified. the rest depends on Japan and also Iran and their picks.

LM2X: :IND:UZB

LW2X: :VIE

M1X: :KAZ

W1X: :TPE

assuming Japan will pick LM2X and LW2X (that just make sense) here is the rest

LM2X: :JPN:IND:UZB

LW2X: :JPN:VIE:INA

M1X: :KAZ:PHI:IRQ:THA

W1X: :TPE:KOR:HKG:QAT

that last quota depends on Iran! if Iran picks M1X. :SGP qualifies for W1X and if Iran picks W1X, :KUW will qualify for M1X !!!!!

Not sure if it was the NOC or the biathlon federation (I assume the latter) that put him in the Livigno training 'world' with a former Italian biathlete as coach, but they can definitely also be blamed:  almost everyone involved in that shitshow got the motivation just sucked out of them by the methods and shitty atmosphere until they either retired or changed country

    • Lots of injuries, including often just pure bad-luck stuff like a fall from a set of stairs, illness, and of course the Sochi tragedy in 2014: one of her biathlon friends, young Julia Pieper, killed herself with a biathlon rifle early during the Olympics (she wasn't on the team, but was a training partner of both Preuss and Dahlmeier). Obviously a hard hit, which led to terrible Olympics for Preuss, with a DNF, awful results in her other individual races and a relay where she was the first runner for Germany, but fell early on, got snow in her rifle and broke a pole and ended up losing almost 3 minutes, which in turn resulted in Germany being off the podium for the first time ever.   After that came all the injuries and illness and everything. So glad to finally see her have her big individual global gold, that is so well deserved.
