Never seen such jealousy!  :thankyou:

Jealousy for what?

Nothing was expected from the Dutch team here and seeing awesome events is way more important than seeing the same nationality as in one's own passport win things. This is not an awesome event. A mixed event can be good, but make it only the 4x100 free if a mixed is so badly needed, and have a set starting order.

Also absolutely unbelievable US went for Dressel in the 100 free and not a woman. And even worse, also a woman in the breaststroke

How hard is to count which style for which gender gives you the most advantage? :p Breaststroke should be always for men in the mixed relay?

It’s like they’d never seen the event before. You have to go with a man on breast stroke and a woman on free!

I guess the combined time for woman breast+man free was less than man breast+women free

100m breast women: 1:05.0

100m breast men: 59.0

100m free women: 53.0

100m free men: 47.0

W breast + M free = 1:52

M breast + W free = 1:52

Right, in this specific case the difference is tiny :p

Fastest American man on breast wins as much on the fastest American woman on breast as the fastest American woman on free loses on the fastest American man on free :d

(In ideal circumstances, there is a bit more space in these times in M breast than in M free)

Always have a man in the breaststroke. This is an unwritten rule. It is the slowest style and most time can be won/lost there.

Not always, the combined time of finals for Dressel/Jacoby was faster than Weitzeil/Andrew (though just barely)

I'd say that countries who are excessively obsessed about the medal table like GB and China have long given this event a huge deal of thought and planning whereas I bet USA and Australia probably first really focused on this event yesterday

But if this event stays I'm sure it will be different next time

Yes I know all teams have an eye on the medal table but I'd say some more than others .

Both USA and Australia  don't really do all sports and all events whereas others like China and GB are always looking for low hanging fruit where money  could mean medals

I dare say no country has a stronger medal table obsession than a country where the biggest media actually changes the way the table is presented (not the usual and official gold first, then silver, then bronze, but total medals first) just to make them look like they're in 1st place when they're actually not.

Jacoby’s goggles popped off, and that basically cost the :USA any chance at a medal.

I personally think going with Jacoby in the Breast and Dressel in the Free was the correct choice.

    • Non-Olympic Athlete, Moment of the Year and Olympic Spirit Award are the ones lacking the most. Paralympic Athlete and Breakthrough also don't have a lot of votes.
    • Do you have or have you ever had an modern ice track?
    • Still no progress in the Italian team: 2x 4th place in men's singles and women's doubles+ a fall in the team relay. Men's doubles and women's singles without any progress for years. What's worse, our women's doubles also significantly lowered their level: without a single podium in the World Cup in this season. As of today, I'm betting on 0 medals in Cortina for us, excluding some miracles on the home track.
    • There is some progress at Barp and Carollo but almost everything is still based on Pellegrino. In the men's we lost a great talent - de Fabiani and Davide Graz - they are at an age where we have a generation gap in these age groups: 1994-2000. In the women's I`m happy with Monsorno's progress in sprints but the last podium WC in the women's category was in... 2011. We wasted 15 years in the women's category and now we are only waking up with 1 year to go until the games in Cortina, when we should have a ready team like Germany (I will skip Scandinavia because of its completely different potential).
    • Italy doesn't exist in women's technical competitions without from Brignone and Goggia - both over 30 age. Unfortunately Bassino has been out of good shipe since from last season in the giant slalom and she is unrecognizable in some competitions. In the case of Goggia I also don't really believe in regular podiums in the giant slalom - she can't have falls and win in the downhill and super-G. The giant slalom is just a bonus.   The Italian women's slalom has basically been non-existent for many years. One Peterlini qualifies for the 30 and doesn't finish half of the competitions. I can't understand how it was possible to lose Colturi in a situation where other Italians have fallen so badly. Unfortunately it's not the Italian federation that should be setting the conditions here but it's Colturi and her mother - a talent on par with Shiffrin at her age.
    • In relay yes, but we have 8 more from our legend Natalya Yakushenko back in 2008 and earlier
