Unlike GB who don't care about half the sports, I can picture France winning at least one medal in almost every sport.

Doubtful though in Badminton, Synchronised Swimming, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Water Polo and Table Tennis (excluding the 5 new sports for the Tokyo programme) but who knows, a lot can happen in 6,5 years from now.

Francisco Saubidet Birkner? Another from the skiing family?

They have more Olympians than some small countries...

I won't call a water polo medal doubtfull, but impossible :p I think that rhytmic gymnastic is also impossible and you forgot field hockey. The men's side should be decent enough (quarter finalist at best ?), but the women's side will be hopeless (they allready announced that they will try to reach some foreigners to make the team)

Yes, he's a cousin of them. And also his brother and sister do windsurfing too. Big family :d

A current top 20 position on the men's side (Field Hockey) is a good position to work with from now. Another sport I forgot about is Golf, I'm not sure if there is any prospect.

I hope Brazil returns to the old results, 17 medals to be exact. Chances for this exist, but should be between 14 or 15 medals.

Big Sports - Volleyball (Indoor/Beach), Judo, Football, Swimming... - 9/10 medals.

Traditional Sports - Athletics, Gymnastics, Boxing, Taekwondo - 1/2 medals

New Sports - Karate/Skateboard/Surfing - 3/6 medals

Canoeing - 1/2 medals (Probably 1)

I do not believe we can win a medal in a other sport, but there are chances in tennis, table tennis, cycling, slalom canoeing ...

The early Rio days were a disaster (something like one medal after four days), so at the end of the day, it was ok/satisfactory (considering the early days, it could have been soooooooo much worse).

IIRC, 42 medals was the objective which would have been a record in modern days (which now have been beaten again by... Beijing 08 thanks to doping cases :p) Golds were lacking a bit indeed, but the overall 7th spot in the medals table was judged fine..

Track cycling was indeed a disaster (only one bronze medal). It's the one sport (whith perhaps swimming) where we should gain a lot in Tokyo (if anything, Mathilde Gros should make sure of it). Boxing (6 medals) will certainly take a hit, but the introcution of Karate will hopefully compensate it.

What exactly does that mean? You see her as a medal favorite in 2020?

I doubt that she alone will be enough to lead France to a medal in team sprint, so this leaves only keirin and sprint.

In both events we will have Vogel and Morton (who will both be 29 in Tokyo), Ligtlee (who will be 26 in Tokyo), the british girls, the chinese girls and the russian girls. In keirin we will also have Degrendele. Grabosch was born in 1998 while Gros was born in 1999, we saw at the recent world championships how big the gap between those two is, so i honestly wouldn't expect any medals from Gros in Tokyo.

You... have a great memory. The 4th day was ineed great with five medals, including the two equestrian ones. We only had one before that day.

Germany had the same problems, 0 medals on the first 3 days and then 3 medals on day 4.

    • Lara Malsinier and Alex Insam are junior World Championship medalists from a few years ago. Maybe it was possible to provide them with private teams then and now they could even fight for a single podium from time to time? I mean especially women because there, for example: Canada or France can be in the top, so why not us? Now Rodlauer from Austria has joined the Italian team but for now there is a huge gap to the top and only Sieff and Lara Malsinier are jumping well. There was success in the Summer Grand Prix but with a weak competition. Even 3rd place in a single competition in winter is worth more than winning the LGP with a terrible squad.   It remains to wait but I fear that the most we can count on is a dramatic fight with France and maybe Finland in the mixed competition at the World Championships. Bresadola probably won't return this season, so only the inconsistent Insam remains.
    • When did Kim Min-Seok switch to Hungary?
    • Earlier today, Taiwan beat the USA    Of course it's car from the best US tram but it's still a big deal for Taiwanese baseball
    • And even here we lose to France? I really don't know what's the point of organizing the Olympics if you can't make progress in practically any sport. France has the Olympics in 2030 and there they will definitely prepare 100%, just like for Paris. We can't do that. It's obvious that in ski jumping we have no chance of winning medals, but decency dictates that we should at least win here with a France like that.
    • There is no snow in Lillehammer
    • Finally the ski jumping season begins 11 teams in the (real) mixed team competition, no Switzerland.
    • Most of our athletes are constantly bothered by something: the pressure to qualify, the miss of pressure when they have already qualified, etc. It's the same in football: at the beginning of the season they are a poor form becouse of a little played and at the end of the season they are tired. They are always looking for excuses. A real champion always plays at a high level, like Sinner, and doesn`t look for 1000 excuses for his poor performance.
    • Think it is mentally difficult for the two teams with the Olympic place guaranteed and the pressure off, whereas everyone else is absolutely playing at 110%.  I'm sure things will be better once they get to Milan.
    • There's no point in cheating, these were terrible European Championships for us. Retronaz out of form, Constantini with a huge number of big mistakes. Only illness can excuse it... We've probably lost the last 10 matches with Switzerland... It looks like Constantini had the tournament of her life in mixed doubles in 2022 in Beijing and she will never reach this level again.
    • What good is it to us if we took 4th place and lost an important match? If Constantini was sick, I forgive her, but I'm afraid that the Italian team will not exceed a certain level. Yes, they have made progress since 2022, but they lack that one decisive step to become a class team. Here we lost all important matches with teams at our/higher level: Sui x2, Sco x2, Swe. We only won with the one we were supposed to win with. I don't believe in a medal for this team in Cortina. After 2022, it seemed that Constantini could dominate women's curling, but it didn't happen that way. After Sinner's recent successes, I opened my eyes a bit and started to demand more from our athletes, coaches, and officials. I have no intention of being satisfied with 4th place, because with this approach, you won't achieve anything great.
