Errrm.....how did she get her start in politics?  Because she was a dedicated public servant or because she was sleeping with the Mayor of San Francisco?

Update: I do need to apologize - to you in fact.  Someone your age who reads nothing but the leftist media will very likely not ever have heard of that particular story, since the US media & even the BBC go  to extraordinary efforts to cover it up.

It was common knowledge back in the day - here’s a local SF newspaper story about it from 2003.

There are a lot of people who get appointed to rando state boards or who are the district attorney for a large city. Very few of them make it to the top of California politics (governor of California or senator from California are among the hardest jobs to get in US politics - heck, being elected attorney general of California is in and of itself a feat) and all that happened well after her fling / sugar baby (call it what you want) relationship with Willie Brown, and well beyond where his power laid.

2020 keep surprising....

This is somehow both shocking and completely unsurprising. It feels like the conflict between the US allied Arab countries and Israel have been phony for a very long time. But the symbolism of this move is really striking.

Yeah, I was really shocked by it too honestly. I don’t know what Trump’s role in this was per say, but it seems like a major win for his administration. It will be interesting to see how other Arab countries respond to this. I honestly won’t be shocked one bit if either the UAE is kicked out of the GCC, or all the Arab countries scramble to make peace with Israel as fast as they can to look good internationally.

MbS and MbZ are quite close to each other. There is no chance that UAE took this step without discussing with Saudis. I fully expect Saudis to have similar deal soon. Also, it is not just about looking good internationally, it is about better defined camps in anticipation of war: USA+Arabs+Israel vs Iran+Turkey+China.

Trump, Netanyahu and MbZ would have been front-runners for this years Nobel Peace Prize but I am sure 1) This year's Nobel would go to Covid Warriors and 2) There is no way Nobel Committee's politics would allow them to honour Trump and Bibi.

I’m afraid your answer just shows how corrupt modern politics is.   She got her start in politics by sleeping with her boss who appointed her to two jobs with extremely high pay & no work, for which she had no other qualifications.   Since both these jobs involved granting permission for businesses to do things, she naturally attracted even more bribe money & political support from the bribe-payers.

Trump’s strategy to win the election seems to be to kill the US Postal Service, so that states can’t issue mail-in ballots (to allow people to vote from home, which some states already do anyways), so that everyone has to gather together, en masse at in-person polling centers, during a global pandemic, which the US is most affected by, to make their vote in a general election.

    • Earlier today, Taiwan beat the USA    Of course it's car from the best US tram but it's still a big deal for Taiwanese baseball
    • And even here we lose to France? I really don't know what's the point of organizing the Olympics if you can't make progress in practically any sport. France has the Olympics in 2030 and there they will definitely prepare 100%, just like for Paris. We can't do that. It's obvious that in ski jumping we have no chance of winning medals, but decency dictates that we should at least win here with a France like that.
    • There is no snow in Lillehammer
    • Finally the ski jumping season begins 11 teams in the (real) mixed team competition, no Switzerland.
    • Most of our athletes are constantly bothered by something: the pressure to qualify, the miss of pressure when they have already qualified, etc. It's the same in football: at the beginning of the season they are a poor form becouse of a little played and at the end of the season they are tired. They are always looking for excuses. A real champion always plays at a high level, like Sinner, and doesn`t look for 1000 excuses for his poor performance.
    • Think it is mentally difficult for the two teams with the Olympic place guaranteed and the pressure off, whereas everyone else is absolutely playing at 110%.  I'm sure things will be better once they get to Milan.
    • There's no point in cheating, these were terrible European Championships for us. Retronaz out of form, Constantini with a huge number of big mistakes. Only illness can excuse it... We've probably lost the last 10 matches with Switzerland... It looks like Constantini had the tournament of her life in mixed doubles in 2022 in Beijing and she will never reach this level again.
    • What good is it to us if we took 4th place and lost an important match? If Constantini was sick, I forgive her, but I'm afraid that the Italian team will not exceed a certain level. Yes, they have made progress since 2022, but they lack that one decisive step to become a class team. Here we lost all important matches with teams at our/higher level: Sui x2, Sco x2, Swe. We only won with the one we were supposed to win with. I don't believe in a medal for this team in Cortina. After 2022, it seemed that Constantini could dominate women's curling, but it didn't happen that way. After Sinner's recent successes, I opened my eyes a bit and started to demand more from our athletes, coaches, and officials. I have no intention of being satisfied with 4th place, because with this approach, you won't achieve anything great.
    • play their best, but only get 1, so  get bronze 6-4!
    • Oh dear, once again a 50% shot from Constantini when she needed 100%.   blank the end & go into the 10th with the Hammer of Thor.
